Question Posted Thursday January 25 2007, 10:09 pm
Okay ..
This weekend my friend and i want to go get our 2nd holes pierced at Claire's.
I also want to get the top of my ear done.
I've heard it hurts reaaally bad, though.
Can anyone with experience tell me what the pain's like?
Also, how much each piercing costs at Claire's & if they do a good job!
thanks :]
Go to a piercing shop where they use individual needles, not reused ones. And make sure they tell you how to clean it & that they explained everything to you. I'm not sure how old you are, but at some places, they won't pierce you by yourself until you're 16. If you're younger than 16, or have no real id [liscense, permit] then they will not pierce you unless a parent is present. Same thing goes for your friend.
Personally, I did all my piercings myself. Not because it was free, but because it took less time & I didn't have to buy the earrings I wanted. I had them already. And I didn't have to leave my house for it. I did the middle of my ear, not the top, and that one still sorta hurts to this day, and I did it almost a year ago. So I can imagine how much your cartilidge will hurt. But then again, it depends on the person.
Anyways, go somewhere real. Claire's will more than likely fuck it up & get your ears infected.

Go to a real piercing place that knows what they're doing. As far as pain goes - it depends on the person so you can never really say. If you experience any pain for your second holes, it's a pinch that'll only last a few seconds. As for your cartilage piercing, I've never had it done so I can't tell you from experience. But everyone I know who has had theirs done has said it hurts. All I can tell you is - don't worry about the pain. If you experience any at all, it won't last very long. Typical pricing for ear piercing is around ($30-$40). Less or more depending on the place you go to. [ LadyH's advice column | Ask LadyH A Question ]
Erronius answered Friday January 26 2007, 12:41 am: - Don't go to Claires, or anyplace in a mall. Go where real piercers go.
- Look for APP certification.
- Guns cannot be put through an autoclave, and have been made illegal in some states. If you are scared of the possibility of reused needles, many places have one-use, individually packaged ones.
- If you get an infection, go to the Doctor. People have lost ears, noses, breasts, and other unmentionables because they got infections and didn't go to the doctor.
- Ears aren't as dangerous as tongues, for example, but there is still danger especially with cartilage. One word: Perichondritis. Pics: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
- Get something good, like a captive bead ring that you can easily clean around. Don't get the cheap studs with the spring backing (the ones the use with the guns), they are hard to clean around and often are made of a cheap metal that can cause allergic reactions. Avoid nickel and brass. Stainless steel, titanium, and niobium are some good materials.
- Oh yeah, quality jewelry is attractive. Junk thats like $5.00 is not. Of course, this might be more specific to the "bodyart" crowd.
- The pain is different for everyone. A good piercer will be done quickly. A gun is quicker, but again, don't use a gun. I've seen other guys pass out, yet I've had no problems. I've yet to see a woman cry or pass out /shrug.
A good site to read if you've read nothing else is www.safepiercing.org Two pages of particular note:

mayonnaise answered Thursday January 25 2007, 11:15 pm: Hi. I have over 20 piercings.
I got my second holes done when I was 11.
It hurt pretty bad. Mainly cause they were pierced with a gun.
I have my cartaledge done though, and an industrial and a few other random ones. They don't hurt at first but afterwords the pain is moderate.
I don't really recomend Claire's just cause they use guns to pierce with, and thats the worst. Its better to go and get it done by a professional at a body piercing shop. (yes, even for your ears) You are less likely for infection and/or complications.
Claire's does ear piercing for free, however you do have to pay for the jewlery. I'm not sure how much it is, Sorry. Friends that have gone to Claire's, they do pretty good work around here.
