I'm pretty good at volleyball (well better than alot of people.. not to brag.. but I've always liked the sport, and I even played it in the summer, at like some good rec place.). however in soccer, i have been playing for like 3 seasons, and im not the best player.. like I dont know all those tricks and junk, but I'm determined.. yet lack alot of skills, lol. I'm a 7th grade girl, and I'm going to high school soon.. and Im wondering which do I pick? because the soccer and volleyball seasons are both in the fall... that sucks because I love both, but soccer better.. but im not that good at it! what to pick! .. I wish I started soccer earlier :/

Choose soccer. First off I think its a good idea because you like it more at the moment. The other reason, is that I think that this is a sport that is so much more likely to keep you interested in the future.
I have played both sports and enjoyed doing so. However, I think soccer is on a totally different level. Volleyball tends to be a bit more limited... you need to excel at a few things and then its mainly a matter of jumping higher, hitting harder etc. Im not saying there isnt a teamwork element to it, there is, but its on a rather simple level.
Soccer on the other hand evolves radically every few years. New formations, styles, player types... its almost a totally different game today than it was in the 80s and even the 90s. The tactical possibilities, the radically different player types and so on, make soccer something you can spend a lifetime learning.
Anyway, thats my view on it. I think thats the reason soccer is the national sport of virtually every country in the world. [ Alin75's advice column | Ask Alin75 A Question ]
LagunaBabe answered Wednesday January 24 2007, 12:06 am: I think you should chose the sport that you enjoy the most. Being as you said Soccer, I would go with that. You have some time to get better at the sport, and learn more about it. Between 7th and 9th grade. So I would work hard with soccer until high school, if that's your passion. JesusFreak2006 answered Tuesday January 23 2007, 11:24 pm: well if you looking at which could get you better scholarships for college definately volleyball...and it comes easy for you you should be able to excel at it...soccer is not really that big at the college level or at least it not publicized like vollyball...volleyball they have like national tournaments...however you should really play what you love to play...but realise when you start playing at highschool leve its a whole new ball game..the practices get tougher the games get more serious but do what ypu love more [ JesusFreak2006's advice column | Ask JesusFreak2006 A Question ]
yourrtrustyhelpline answered Tuesday January 23 2007, 10:51 pm: i had the same kind of problem, although at our school, volleyball is fall&soccer is winter, so first, you might want to doublecheck on the seasons. anyways, i had to choose between wresling and soccer, which i have been playing for 4 years. i chose wrestling. why ? simple. new experiences. i think you should try volleyball as highschool sport. then decide whether you like soccer or volleyball better. well you are only in 7th grade, so you really don`t need to worry about it much yet. you might want to see if you know anyone (such as older siblings or friends of older siblings) that play on the soccer or volleyball team. ask what they do for each sport and see which one you would prefer. talking to the coaches about it would also be a good idea. ask how they run things and stuff, and then make your decision.
