can someone tell me the EXACT definition of straightedge? i think its just not getting into drugs and alchohal, but can someone tell me the true definition of it. thnx

Straight edge is basically living a clean life without drugs, drinking and casual sex. It's living a poison free and keeping yourself safe. It is a choice and it does not make you better or worse than anyone. We all make choices and some choose to be straight edge and some don't. Yes, it's true that some people will stop being sXe when they turn 21 but that is just another choice. Straight Edge is a way of life but has now been formed into a trend. Out there, there are true edgers.
1)no drugs
2)no alcohol
3)no promiscuous sex

it is a subculture centered around hardcore music. People who are straight edge do not smoke, do drugs or consume alcohol. There are no dietary or religious beliefs tied to straight edge.
late 70's They took a symbol that was originally used to identify them as being too young to drink so that the bartenders would know not to serve them and they made it their own. So they started setting themselves apart by wearing X's on their hands and by singing angry songs.

Straight edge was started by a band called Minor Threat. Usually when kids underaged for drinking go to concerts, the guard people put a X mark on their hands to show that they weren't able to drink so that's where the X, XXX, sXe forms of sXe come from.
It means ABSOLUTLY NO drugs, alcohol, smoking, and casual sex (if it's like a deep relationship, it's fune but if it's a one night stand type of thing, no no). If you have broken any of the rules previously or offended it in one way or another, your rights of being sXe is taken away.
Some people associate sXe with people being athiests but I must tell you that what they is not always the came. Some sXe go to the exreme to turn themselves into a vegetarian or a vegan but that is not necessary to be sXe
sXe may seem like no fun like the person said below but it should be led by everyone. It's very safe and keeps you healthy and you can disassociate yourself from all the drunks and the stoned.
