I'm flying for the first time tomorrow night and I'm very scared. Can someone just tell me anything on how to calm my nerves and feel safer about flying?
Maybe, if you can help it, don't sit in a window seat, it doesn't bother me but the view from 36,000 feet might freak some people out. :) Also, she's right about security-- first of all, terrorists have already tried the airplane one on us before, so they aren't going to do something that America has prepared for for 5 years with outrageous rules and air marshalls, because they know we're expecting it. Second, the odds of your plane being the one full of terrorists is next to none, as there are lots of airlines in the world and thousands of planes. So just sit back, enjoy the ride, and think about how cool of an invention the airplane is to begin with. :) [ opinionated06's advice column | Ask opinionated06 A Question ]

But, heres something to think about. SINCE September 11th, airport security is so tight and secure that its almost impossible for anything like that to happen again! Theres always a chance, but were so much more prepared. ALSO, it helps to think how common it is for planes to crash. Sure it happens, but think do I actually know someone who has died going on a plane? Ive flown many times and I can assure you the chances are small. Bring gum and obviously bring something to do. There are shades on the windows - make sure you pull those down if you get scared! I always bring my laptop and lots of DVDs. Also, if you dont have that - IPOD or music player! It helps to forget and calm your fears. Bring a book or magazines. ALSO, they will show you a safety video with emergeny precautions. WATCH AND PAY ATTENTION. It is guaranteed to make you feel better if youre prepared! [ xomichelle891xo's advice column | Ask xomichelle891xo A Question ]
Darkhelp66466 answered Monday January 8 2007, 11:09 am: awww, definitly bring gum like the first person says, and yes definitly bring music. but a lot of airlines have movies playing during their flights. i would also bring a book. but don't worry to minimize problems don't try to bring any liquids onto the plane with you and make sure every single metal thing gets into your box at the x-ray machine. but most of all don't forget to breath. at some point you might et turbulence but don't worry its no big deal.
good luck. [ Darkhelp66466's advice column | Ask Darkhelp66466 A Question ]
lois answered Monday January 8 2007, 9:35 am: you just have to think about something else, like listen to music or hold on to someone's hand, but the one that alway works for me is to count from one to ten, and before you know what going on you will be flying. hope i help good luck. linkinpark0651 answered Monday January 8 2007, 1:40 am: Sit at an window seat near the emergency exit aisle. You'll know you can get out fast if something goes wrong. Sit near people you know. Bring something to listen to so you can take your mind off of flying. Flights since 9-11 are VERY safe. They even X-ray checked luggage and have routines of checking passengers before they get on the plane, so you should be safe.
Oh-- and make sure you have gum to chew so your ears won't "pop" as bad =) [ linkinpark0651's advice column | Ask linkinpark0651 A Question ]
