phillysprincesss answered Friday January 26 2007, 9:24 pm: I kept two kittens from my cats litter and one of them would not use the litter box. I got her a separate litter box and thought that would help. Some cats are very perticular about sharing a litter box. Think about it, would you want to poop in the toilet that somebody else just pooped in without flushing? Anyway my cat was still pooping behind the dryer and I noticed that the other kitten was using her litter box so I moved it to another part of the house and kept taking the other kitten away from the box, now the one kitten and her mom share one box just fine, and the other kitten uses her own box just fine. selectopaque answered Wednesday January 17 2007, 3:37 pm: I work at a vet clinic and have been taking classes to become a veterinary nurse.
In my disease class we learned that the number one reason for a cat to suddenly begin to go to the bathroom next to the litter box was because of anal gland problems. You should take her to the vet and see if they can help you. She is going outside the box because she's in pain. [ selectopaque's advice column | Ask selectopaque A Question ]
MassieGirl answered Friday January 5 2007, 11:32 pm: Mabye your cat is doing it because it's in heat (mabye)but if i were you i would re-teach them to use the litter box (tip=when i trianed my cat to use the litter box i locked her in my bathroom with the litter box and then when i let her out she ws trianded)everyone in my family has done that with their cats and it's worked every time!!
pockets answered Friday January 5 2007, 6:16 pm: The litter box might need to be cleaned. Alot of cats refuse to touch it if it's too dirty. Females are usually more picky. If it's clean, the litter box may be too small for both of them, and the female doesn't want to be surrounded by the scent of the other cat's urine. Try cleaning the spot on the floor next to the litter box, if it still smells like her poop, she probably will keep going there. [ pockets's advice column | Ask pockets A Question ]
kittygurl90 answered Friday January 5 2007, 4:21 pm: My cat does that too.. shes a female. I even have 2 litter boxes, one regular and one automatic cleaning one and she still does it.. i dont know why. I would maybe try cleaning it everyday. or getting a second litter box. It could be that if you have switched litters like the sandy stuff..she might not like it.. i know my cat did that.. or if the male is taking territory over it.. or if she just got de-clawed. well i hope this helps a little.
pinkfox answered Friday January 5 2007, 3:16 pm: She may not like the little if you changed it recently, she may want to behave by going "in" the litter box so she goes next to it. She may have a cut on her foot and the litter hurts her paw. If you very recently got her declawed, I have heard of their paws being super sensitive and them never going in the litter again.
To be safe reather than sorry call you vet imeditly.
Good luck!
Hope I helped! [ pinkfox's advice column | Ask pinkfox A Question ]
Xenolan answered Friday January 5 2007, 12:06 pm: It may be a matter of the male having established the litterbox as his territory, and the female therefore doesn't use it. You may need a second box. [ Xenolan's advice column | Ask Xenolan A Question ]
