Question Posted Thursday December 28 2006, 12:31 am
I am very scared of skin cancer - but I do go tanning in a tanning salon. I live in a very cold part of the U.S. and I look very bad without a tan. Also, creams and spray tans just make me look orange. Is going to the tanning bed 5 or 6 times a year going to give me skin cancer? How can I protect myself when going to a tanning bed? Can I wear sunscreen or something with SPF in it?
runawayxlove answered Thursday December 28 2006, 2:15 pm: hey, any time that you go tanning in those beds your risking skin cancer. those are pretty bad for you. i would recommend spray tanning for you. if you choose a good tanning place it wont make you orange. also your getting tan without being in risk of cancer. before you go in the spray tanning booths they make you put on this lotion stuff to make you not get so orange. to answer your question about putting on sunscreen with spf in it, that would just be a waste of time. your paying to be tan, so why would you want to take away from it? putting on spf isnt going to slim down your risks of skin cancer. its just going to make you less tan. self tanners are a really bad idea. they leave you streaky and oompa-loompa orange. good luck =]. I was the person that didn't believe in the sunless tanners, because I thought that they turned my skin orange and that I looked blotchy. I finally found a self tanner that is awesome!!! It's called Clarins self tanning gel. It's a little pricey, but it works wonders! I have never had a streak from it and it gives you a nice bronzed look! Tanning is also pricey, so you're not spending much more on the sunless tanner that won't harm your skin. It's def. worth it. [ brunette4u10's advice column | Ask brunette4u10 A Question ]
snickerzz11 answered Thursday December 28 2006, 2:57 am: I think that you should probably not go to tanning beds any more. You do have a chance of getting skin cancer from them, definitely. If you think about it, you're putting so much heat on your body that it singes to a darker color. Kinda gross, huh? I suppose that if you MUST use a tanning bed, sunscreen could help...Another thing you could try is just looking for different cream/spray tans. Experiment with different ones that don't make you so orange. I'm sorry I sound so preachy about the whole skin cancer thing, but my mom almost died from malignant melanoma, so I feel pretty strongly about it...Hope I helped =] [ snickerzz11's advice column | Ask snickerzz11 A Question ]
