You should never inbreed dogs. Dachshunds (unfortunately) are prone to back problems and as well as others, and inbreeding will only give you an unhealthy pup with an increased risk of such diseases. If you really want another puppy I suggest going to the shelter and finding one there. Although they may not be all purebreds, you could be saving their lives. =] Also, you can check out dachsund rescues as well. ^^ ]
it really is not recomended, the way genetics works, you can get a perfectly healthy puppy, but you can also get some pretty major defects. you might also get defects that show up in the next generation. if you are willing to risk that, then you can try it, but you really should find another dog to breed the father with. doesnt even have to be a daschung, you can get a nice mix breed. ]
I'm so sorry to hear about your puppy, that's really awful. I totally understand why you want to consider breeding in this way but there are a few things you need to take into consideration.
A small genepool is at risk from many problems.
It can limit the puppies abilities to produce some types of antibodies, making them more susceptible to some illnesses. When they are closely related, any genetic problems are more likey to show.
Some of them have lower birth weights and/or puppies with less energy, slower or stunted growth, more still births and abnormal puppies, higher losses due to illness and birth defects. There is also the chance of temperment problems etc.
Having said that, a great many breeders, in an attempt to 'improve' a breed will use inbreeding to some extent, but they generally ensure that the dogs involved are free from any hereditary problems and they don't go beyond one or two generations.
Hope that helps and you feel a lot better soon. ]
You absolutely can not breed dogs from the same direct family.
What happens is all organisms have mutations in their DNA. Any genetic problems that show up in one dog will be magnified in the offspring. This is why any of these puppies could have serious problems.
Are there any other dachshunds available for breeding in the area? That's your best bet. ]
I wouldn't suggest breeding two dogs from the same family, as the puppy could have high chances of coming out with defects. ]
