Loosing weight.

Question Posted Sunday November 5 2006, 2:03 am

I'm 13 I way 125, I'm 5'0. I hate my weight, It makes self conscious like you couldn't believe [along with my acne] I want to loose weight a healthy way, this hopes of along with clearing my acne up.
I'm goaling to loose atleast 5 pounds this month.
I'm going to join the YMCA and I'm going to run track ,go to the pool on the weekends, cardio, and probably join a class or more.
I'm cutting out soda [which will be easy, I hardly ever have soda]
the hardest thing will be junk food, because thats all my family ever buys.

Any suggestions? Any opinions? Good or bad, I want to/need to hear it.

To tell you the truth..
I think you are at at a good weight.
When I was 13 I weighed 129 and I always thought I was fat and stuff to..
But I did what you did..
I started to work out more and cut out junk food and soda.
I think if you wanna lose weight and do what you're gonna do then definetly go for it!
I think it's a great idea.
You'll probably just create muscle then lose weight but that's a really good thing.
So good luck with what you're doing.
And you should drink a lot of water while you're doing that too!
It helps a lot.

Good luck.

First of all, you're already starting on the right track by wanting to do all this exercising and healthy eating and everything instead of those girls who just don't eat and hurt their body more than they think they are.

But if you continously work out and keep a steady, regular routine, why just lose 5 pounds a month? A healthy weight loss is 2-3 pounds per week, so if you were to lose 2 pounds every week, you could lose around 8lbs total every month.

Talk to your family and let them know you're starting this routine. Ask them if they can possibly stash all the sweets somewhere else in the house you don't know about, so if you ever feel a craving, you'll be able to fight it by not being able to find the junk food. Also, try and maybe get them to participate in this with you. Have morning jogs with the family and workout together in the gym. A good support group for eachother'd be benifical to the whole entire family.

Also, make it fun so you're not all by yourself sweating. If not family, why not make it friends? Friends is another great support system who can help you outside of your home. They can help you with your eating at lunch in school, and if you stay over their house you two can jog together outside or walk around the neighborhood and just hang out. Also, as the person below said, in gym whenever you're hanging out, try your hardest in gym and make sure to do your best.

Just don't go overboard at first, and start out slow. If your body isn't use to exercise, it's going to tire out your body if you're going overboard on the exercise first. So just ease into it and increase the number of laps or push ups or whatever it is you're doing every few days.

Also be sure to get all your nutrients into your system, and get a good amount of sleep. It's not going to help you if you're bodys always tired and it won't be fun if you're jogging on your treadmill and your eyes fall asleep. Ow.

Also, for your acne issue, it may be all this junk food and everything that's causing all of it. Try purchasing proactiv (sp ); my friend's used it before and it worked wonders for her. Also, acne can be caused of a build-up of oils and grease and everything, so just be sure to wash and clean your face.

A healthy diet, active lifestyle and enough sleep is all it will take for you to see major improvements.

By the sounds of it, you are on the right track.
Surround yourself with friends and family who will support you through it.

Make up a grocery list for your parents and ask them to buy healthy foods. In most cases, they cost less than junkfood.

Try not to go overboard at first, as it will make you more likely to quit. Start slowly with eating healthy and exercise and mentally reward yourself with every improvement you make to your life. Also, make sure you are getting 8-10 hours of sleep per night. Since you are growing and a teenager, try getting 11 hours. Your body will be changing a lot.

Make the rewards something rather than junkfood. Try taking a bubblebath, doing your nails or sleeping in. That is, if you're a girl. If not, think of relaxing activities that you enjoy.

After a few weeks you will notice you have more energy and are not craving junkfood as much. However, since you are a teenager, you may start to gain weight in the next few years. As long as you keep a healthy lifestyle, you will lose the weight in no time. Or if you're lucky, you will keep the weight off all together.

With less sugars and fats in your diet, your skin will start to look better. Try using an ance product, such as proactive. If not, just make sure you wash your face twice a day.

When you do exercise, such as in PE class at school, be sure to try your hardest. When you are walking down the street, walk quickly and get your heartrate up.

If you're watching TV, do pushups during commercials. Little things like that help a lot. If you really want to get exercise but find it boring, play sports. Sports which include a lot of running, for example, take your mind off the pain because you are focussed on other things.

No matter what you have to be kind to yourself. Love yourself, even. In the end, you will succeed when you are ready. If you find yourself going back to old ways, such as being lazy or not eating a healthy diet, remind yourself of why you are doing it.

You want to look good, but most of all, feel good.

Dont lose hope, good luck.

I have and still am in the same situation. What I do is I try to run a mile every two night and then take a break. As for the eating habits just try to go with your mom to the grocery store and suggest buying apples or something like that. In the long run your whole family might thank you for making them healthy! But as for your weight its good for your age and as long as you exersice and keep healthy you'll be fine.

hope i helped,

Maura
