Fed up with acne!

Question Posted Thursday November 2 2006, 4:43 pm

(Fourteen; Female)
I've been dealing with mild acne since age 11. I get blackheads on my nose and small pimples (not whiteheads, just bumps) all over my forhead and chin.

With the level of stress rising in school, I now get more and more pimples spreading to my cheeks, temples, neck, chest, arms, and back. Just a few here and there, but rapidly increasing.

Also, cystic pimples are popping up alot.

I've tried everything from Clean&Clear to AcneFree. ProActive is not choice right now due to money. A dermatolgist cannot happen either.

Does anyone have any sort of mirical worker?

I'm fourteen too, and I've pretty much had the same problem as you. The thing that has really worked the best IS Proactiv, but since it's not an option right now. I would recommend Noxema cream, just the cream and only the cream. Don't use anything else on your face, except apply lotion after the cream. Do this morning and night. Make sure not to over-wash your face, because it makes your skin dry, then causes acne, etc. Morning and night is fine.

Try to keep your stess level down, because it does cause acne. I know, it's hard, but it does seriously help your skin if you don't get too stressed out.

Unfortunately, acne cannot be cured. Although there are multiple lotions, creams, and pills available to help limit acne, it can never be cured.

Acne has nothing to do with what you eat. It also has nothing to do with how clean your face is. You could shower once a day or once a week. The amount of acne on your face won't change.

Acne is caused by stress, genetics, or both stress and genetics.

However, there is a program that I am somewhat familiar with called Accutane. Accutane is a pill that you take for 4-6 months, and it is supposed to clear your acne for the rest of your life.

But there is a catch. Accutane is somewhat pricey. It also has multiple side effects: liver damage, birth defects, nosebleeds, dry skin, dry lips, fatigue [tiredness], depression, and possibly suicide. You have to see a dermatologist, too.

So you basically can try any product or method you can think of, but your acne will not go away unless your stress levels go down, your hormones relax, or you get Accutane.

I hope I helped. My friend is taking Accutane and said it's a miracle.

OMG!!!! i had this problem too. but i started to experiment with myself... and to tell you to truth, THIS WAS EITHER PRICELESS OR SAVED ME MONEY!!!!

*i started to become extra smart, and started to cut down on the sweets like chocolate and sodas (this work REAL well)

*i got out and exercized ALOT and went to the mall to... just to window shop. i also joined clubs like soccer and cheer.(this really helped from what i could see)

*i cleaned my bed sheets and all the stuffs i would put my face on every week or so (this got all of the dust and dirt off so it would not clog the pores and zits)

I still continue these activites daily, and my face is CLEAR! it seems as if it was never there.

I truly hope this helped,

I had a really bad problem with acne from about age 13 to about age 18. I did have doctors' care, but they didn't know how to treat it because it was so bad. I will always have scars (physical and mental) from it.

Antibiotics helped some, although doctors aren't prescribing them as much nowadays. But you would have to see a doctor to get a prescription, of course. If you can't do that, you might ask a pharmacist at your local drug store for his recommendations for good over-the-counter medications.

For me, washing the affected areas with soap at least twice a day helped some. This removed excess oils, which can contribute to acne problems. Don't scrub the areas hard though. Keep your hair and skin as oil free as possible. Also, don't squeeze or pick at the blackheads and acne eruptions. You may spread the infection this way. If the pimples need to be "opened" and cleaned out, stand under a warm shower for awhile, or soak the areas in a bathtub. The warm water will soften the skin and you will notice that some of the pimples and the pores will open up and drain or can be easily cleaned out.

My girlfriend helped me more than anything else. She noticed that certain foods I ate--like dairy products for example--upset my stomach and also made my acne worse. I had not noticed this until she pointed it out. I would get diarrhea about four to eight hours after eating dairy products (like ice cream or milkshake), and then I would have an acne outbreak about 24 hours later. So, foods can have an effect on acne, especially if you have an allergy like I do.

I think you should definitely watch your diet even if you don't have food allergies. I believe that "eating right" is simply good for you, and it might help somewhat with the acne. There is much information available on how to eat right. I won't go into that here. But I would definitely try for a "balanced" diet. Watch your fat and sugar intake, get enough fiber, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, and drink enough water (and reduce your intake of colas and other soft drinks).

Remember: It is likely that you will eventually "grow out of" this phase of your life, and your acne will go away.

1. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. It's amber-colored and comes in a pump bottle. If you have VERY dry skin i'd suggest the cream form, otherwise the regular one is good. It washes away excess oil and prevents shinyness, but doesn't make your face peel (unless you're allergic to salicylic acid). Plus it doesn't smell like crap :D
You can get it for around five dollars at Wal-Mart, and the CVS or Wal-Mart store brand works fine too.

2. Clean and Clear Advantage Spot Treatment. This stuff will set you back around seven or eight dollars, but it's well worth it. It's a very effective spot treatment and doesn't make your face peel like benzoyl peroxide will. One tube lasts a long time, so you really get your money's worth here.

3. Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse. I get it on sale, or at Target and Walmart. It's around five dollars and is the best foundation I've tried. It doesn't clog pores (make sure you wash it off at night though!) and covers VERY naturally.

4. I'm assuming you still have a ragular doctor? Ask him to prescribe you an antibiotic such as doxycycline or cephalexen. With my parents' insurance, it's under $10 a month for twice-daily dosage and it works VERY well.

hope I helped, & best of luck! :]

You don't nesscarily have to go to a dermatologist, just go to the doctors & ask if you can get some acne medicine, ask for differin. It will only cost you like 25 dollars, to go to the doctors & get the medicine. Its alot cheaper then clean&clear.

As long as you have insurance or whateverr its called.

Also, washing your face will help too. (:

Hmm well top thing you should do is wash your face morning and at night.

And when you get stresed try not to put all the pressure on you and do something you feel relaxed doing when you're stressed.

But I used this acne neutrogena stuff and it works very well. You should look in the section of neutrogena and I'm sure you'll see it.

It works great!
