well you havent been specific at all, how old are you? what subjects? multiple choice or not? ill try to give you some generic advice.

this is one i used to do pretty often for vocab like tests. make a cheatsheet, nice and small, and write down all the words you dont know, the day before the test. keep it with you, glance at it occasionaly and see if anything sticks in memory. the next day, make another cheet sheet, this time it should hopefully need less stuff. now since you dont actualy want to cheet, just leave it in your pocket (or better yet throw it out) before the test. it does help you retain the information.

with multiple choice tests, its not about figuring out what the answer is, its about figuring out what the answer isnt. and then guessing from the remaining ones.

with studying, its important to study under the same conditions as you will be in when taking the test. so sit in an uncomfortable chair at a tiny desk and read through your book.

i have the same problem, latly i found that i just need to go over the material several time, on deffinitions, i will write the word, write the deffinition on a seperate piece of paper, and try to recite the deff. by memory, once i think i have it i move to the next one repeating the same process, but then i go back through the rest of the list. I do the same on geography locate it on the map, move to the next one, locate both of them, and so on. It has worked pretty well for me. hope i helped

Every day after school, read over all the material you covered within 24 hours of learning it. Then every second day review all the latest notes since your last test.

Hope this helps!

But.. you should take good notes. Like.. is it all in one color?

Maybe rewrite the notes.. color coordinate them!
Titles in Black, bullet notes in green and extra things in purple.

(Just to seperate things, instead of trying to study off of one paper with pen or pencil.. it looks all the same and it gets confusing)

You can also do 'jelly words'
Like.. What do you think of when I say JELLY?
---->peanutbutter?

Like

Simile- LIKE/AS
Monosaccharide- Single Sugar or.. Glucose!
Lungs- Respiratory system!

Something that's similar, that will spark an idea in your head.

Make flash cards.

Have a question on one side and information on the other. And try to answer it and flip it over.. until you remember it. It might take a few nights.

Study a couple of days before the test.

Cramming it in, may work sometimes.. but if you get nervous.. you will forget.

Get a tutor/study partner.. maybe they can explain something.. in a way to help you remember it.

You can also stay after school and get help from a teacher. Even though you probably know how to do it and everything, but if you continue to do it.. it will get into your head.

Studying is a skill, you just need to work on it.

You have to make it fun. Somehow.. if you don't.. you won't feel motivated and you won't really hold the information.

I'm not sure which subjects you're having trouble with. Is it all of your tests? Or is it certain ones? If you have trouble on all of your tests, then it could be test anxiety, or you could just not be studying properly. Everyone learns different. First you need to decide if you are a visual, kinetic (where you learn by the hands-on approach) or an auditory (where you learn through listening) learner. You could try making flash cards to remember things. Also, having a friend study with you is really helpful. I usually have someone ask me questions (like if I have a study guide) and I'll try to answer them. After that I ask them questions, and we do this repeatedly. It tends to help me remember things better. Another thing that may help would be to connect what you're learning with something else. If you need to remember a list of names, then try to make the first letter of each name into a word. I hope this helps and good luck. <3 Dana
