i just downloaded limewire. i downloaded a song, but i got a little alert that said something like: there is no license for this file. dowload anyways? limewire is not responsible for... what does that mean? is it legal ?

It means that the song isn't licensed. Limewire doesn't want to have fingers pointed at them, so they throw in that little warning for things you're about to download that are a lot on the not legal side of things.

What that message basically means is "If you're downloading illegal stuff, don't blame it on us if you go to jail". That kind of thing... They're just trying to get blame off their heads.

No, it's not legal. That's what that message is saying. It pretty much means that there is no license saying that it can be distributed over the internet without a charge.

Limewire isn't legal, but whenever I first heard of them, I heard they have a pretty good security thing so it's really hard for the government or whoever to detect your doing it. That's what happened to Kazaa, and that's why people were getting fined for downloading music because they were getting caught, and it's not paid for. A thousand people use Limewire, and I don't think anybody's been caught or anything.
