i just downloaded limewire. i downloaded a song, but i got a little alert that said something like: there is no license for this file. dowload anyways? limewire is not responsible for... what does that mean? is it legal ?
Assuish answered Friday October 6 2006, 11:10 pm: It means that the song isn't licensed. Limewire doesn't want to have fingers pointed at them, so they throw in that little warning for things you're about to download that are a lot on the not legal side of things. Xineph answered Friday October 6 2006, 3:31 pm: It's not legal... There is no legal way you can get music for free. Sorry.
What that message basically means is "If you're downloading illegal stuff, don't blame it on us if you go to jail". That kind of thing... They're just trying to get blame off their heads. [ Xineph's advice column | Ask Xineph A Question ]
truthonfire answered Friday October 6 2006, 12:26 am: No, it's not legal. That's what that message is saying. It pretty much means that there is no license saying that it can be distributed over the internet without a charge. [ truthonfire's advice column | Ask truthonfire A Question ]
MelLeDisko answered Friday October 6 2006, 12:16 am: Limewire isn't legal, but whenever I first heard of them, I heard they have a pretty good security thing so it's really hard for the government or whoever to detect your doing it. That's what happened to Kazaa, and that's why people were getting fined for downloading music because they were getting caught, and it's not paid for. A thousand people use Limewire, and I don't think anybody's been caught or anything.
