Laws?

Question Posted Saturday September 16 2006, 7:32 pm

Just out of pure curiosity, if a girl is dating a guy and say she's 16 and he's 17. When the guy turns 18, legally do they have to break up?

Thanks, Female, 14.

No, they wouldn't have to break up. If they're having sexual contact than that may get them into some trouble. But if they're not having sex, they're safe.

If they're just dating, then no, they don't have to break up.

But if they're being sexually active, then it is against the law unless where you live 16 in the legal age of consent.

If you want to figure out what the age of consent is for your state, just go to Google and type "_____+ age of consent" or something similiar and see what comes up.

But like I said, if it's just dating, then no they don't have to break up at all.

I hope I helped.

As far as I know, there are no laws regarding dating. The age of consent only applies to sexual contact, so if they're not sexually active, they don't need to worry.

not really.. if you're thinking of the 'pedophile' issue, there's actually a calculation or something that you can do to see if he would be a pedophile.. but legally, you dont have to break up if you're a 16 year old dating a 18 year old. I'm pretty sure about that.
