I'm a 19/F in my first student house, and I'm living with (gasp) four boys. We've got a really sweet arrangement going between three of us where each of us is responsible for dinner two nights a week... it's great because it means you spend less time cooking, and we're like a little family eating dinner together every night!
The thing is that although I'm a good cook and make up my own recipes all the time, I'm kind of short on interesting ideas for what to make for us. Does anybody have any cool, inexpensive recipes that will serve 3-4 people? The only real restriction is that one of us doesn't eat spicy food.

Its Called Nacho Bake:
1 pkg. (12 oz.) VELVEETA Shells & Cheese Dinner
1 lb. ground beef
1 pkg. (1-1/4 oz.) TACO BELL HOME ORIGINALS Taco Seasoning Mix
3/4 cup water
3/4 cup BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream
3/4 cup KRAFT Shredded Cheddar Cheese, divided
3/4 cup TACO BELL HOME ORIGINALS Salsa
1/2 cup coarsely crushed tortilla chips
PREHEAT oven to 400°F. Prepare Dinner following Basic Directions. While Macaroni is cooking, brown meat; drain. Add taco seasoning mix and water to the meat; simmer 5 min.
STIR sour cream into prepared Dinner. Spoon half of the Dinner mixture into 8-inch square baking dish; top with layers of the meat mixture, half of the cheese and the remaining Dinner mixture. Cover.
BAKE 15 min.; top with salsa, remaining cheese and the crushed tortilla chips. Bake, uncovered, an additional 5 min.

But it's all easy, of course.
Let's say, do you go for -
Lyonnaise Potato: Heat Butter till Melt,
Add in Onion(Yellow), cook till fragrant,
Add in Potatoes. Season with salt * pepper)
Saute till cook.
If your potatoes are sliced thick, deep frying will help the potatoes to cook faster.
Seasonal Veg: Veg in the Fridge, Most Kinds actually.
Wash clean, cut into bite size, then
blanch in hot water(hot water + olive oil + butter + onion + oregano + salt + pepper)
Main Course: Fish- Marinate with lemon juice, white wine(if you don't, a bit of vinegar), salt & pepper. Grill away.
Chicken- Easy as Pea. Marinate with any sauce you like, (BBQ, Black Pepper..etc).
Seal Fry. Bake.
Ready in Twenty minutes, 175 degrees celcius.
Depends on Size.

It's chiken wraps see the thing is buy at your local grocery store soft taco shells those big orund circle ones, then buy lettuce, tomato, cheese, hot chicken the ready to go kind, and anything else you guys would like thats a vegetable. Okay so
1) Heat up the tortillas in a microwave until they are warm going on hot but make sure you don't burn them
2) Take a tortilla and spread miracle whip on one side (this will add amazing flavour)
3) Then place in the hot chicken or cold whichever they prefer but I'd reccomend warm-hotish
3) Then add the vegetables the lettuce is better diced it'll add a bit more ease in eating it and make it look fancier.
4) wrap it up and put a toothpick in them to keep the shell in place

Anq3L_xO answered Saturday September 16 2006, 4:52 pm: I'm used to having to satisfy guys' stomachs, and I've found that it's not incredibly hard at all. Boys will eat just about anything. An inexpensive favorite that everyone seems to like, something like macaroni and cheese, hotdogs and some kind of vegetable. It's simple, inexpensive, and tasty. Or something like spaghetti and meatballs with some french bread. It all depends on what kind of budget you're working with I guess. But good luck. BitsandPieces answered Friday September 15 2006, 12:52 pm: You need to start with cheap basics that are basically foundations of the meal, that can be varied with different toppings. Keep on hand the following staples: frozen pizza dough, canned pesto & tomato sauces, asian sauces, rice, canned beans, pasta, potatos, frozen veggies and meats, tortillas and spices. These things have a long shelf life and then you can grab fresh ingredients like cheeses, sour-cream and fruits to build on. Casseroles make easy all in one meals, as do soups. Don't forget that a great salad along with fresh bread can make a meal in itself. You might want to buy a slow-cooker and a cookbook for one, because you can basically throw in all the ingredients in the morning and have a delicious finished meal by dinner! I also manage an assisted living and help plan the menus, thats a difficult task because the people there won't eat anything that is not traditional midwest farm food! Another idea is to plan a themed meal, such as Mexican one night, Italian the next and so on...
I also like to use the Bisquick recipes like "impossible cheesburger pie" it sounds a little weird but it's really good!
Sometimes I get Ideas from Food TV, although they use ingredients that most of us wouldn't have, I use subsitutes, the cook that I like to watch the most is Racheal Ray. Her recipes are easy and quick. [ Nallie's advice column | Ask Nallie A Question ]
