Dog Problems

Question Posted Tuesday September 12 2006, 7:13 pm

I have a puppy. She pees on the floor constantly. I just got new white carpet. Does anyone know how to get the stains and smell out?

Also, she smells. I wash her like once or twice a week. She made the whole living room smell. Does anyone know how to get dog just smells out of the room. I mean I've tried everything.

Thanks!

You must take a puppy out atleast every two hours until it understands out here, not in there. If you catch your puppy him/her doing 'it' pick him/her up and run to take him/her outside to finish up. Use a carpet cleaner spray to help take it out. And/or buy febreeze if the living room smells. You CANNOT bathe a dog so many times, just keep her out of anything that might make her smell.

1 ) dont wash it tht much, are you trying to get it with a skin problem?

2 ) train it to pee outside. Try when it pees wipe it with a paper towel and bring it and the paper towel outside and when it notices the p.t then giv it a cookie.

Try to take your puppy out every 10-15 minutes make sure you take her to the same spot or around there. She;ll eventually get used to going outside and not in. Also consider puppy training courses they do pay off..later on.

Nallie answered Wednesday September 13 2006, 10:34 pm:
To neutralize stains and odor from urine, you need to use an enzyme based cleaner. Bissle makes one that can be used for pet odors in a steam machine, the pet store has several brands of these type of cleaners. Another one that works is Urine gone that you see on TV. Try blotting the carpet rather than rubbing which will push the smell and stain further down and into the pad.

Keep the pup in a crate to housebreak her and don't let her run around the house without going outside first. There are many articles online regarding housebreaking with a crate.

You should clean up the urine with baking soda and make sure to soak it out of the carpet with a rag first. I would suggest steam-cleaning your carpets, but that can become tedious. As for the way your dog smells, there are certain dog shampoos and puppy shampoos made just for that, you just have to look around. Try a Petco or a Petsmart store. As for the house smelling, try some febreeze after cleaning up the urine. Hope I helped. Good luck! -Angel
