Question Posted Thursday September 7 2006, 10:39 pm

Today I randomly started going through my elementary school memories and I thought about how there was never anything to worry about and how it was really peaceful and joyful. The memories I have are so detailed that I just started crying. I miss not ever worrying about anything and not ever having a reason to be sad. I'm only 16 and I already long to be young again. What do I do?

I think we all have had our days when we look back and see how bright and wonderful our early childhood was. The fact of life though is that we all mature and become more aware of what actually goes on in society. But think of all the amazing benefits of maturity. You're sixteen so soon you'll have your license and maybe a car. This means more independence than when you were just a kid. Life goes on but if you focus on the past, you'll miss out on the future. Leave the past and venture forth. Live life to its fullest because you only get this chance once!

Hope I helped!

I know what you're feeling. I've felt that way before and it's not fun at all. It feels safe thinking about the past because there's no variables, nothing to worry about. It's easy to focus on the good things. The future is a scary thing because you think of all the bad things that could happen. The thing is, lots of bad things happened in your past too and you got through them.

Try to think about your future as fondly as you did in the past when you had no worries. What did you do all the time when you were a kid? Dream about the future. You dreampt about all the things you'd be able to do when you were older and how awesome your life was going to be. Do that now!

The only difference between your childhood and now is that you have worry in your life. Get rid of the worry and you'll be a kid again. That's what got me through it. I realized that I am me. I'm not a kid, I'm not an adult, I'm a person and I can have whatever attitude I want to have about my life. I started getting excited about the future and all the amazing things I'll get to do as my life goes on, just as I used to do when I was younger.

I hope that something I said can help you out, and if it doesn't, remember that you're in a very confusing time in your life and that in a few years you will feel better about things. Good luck. :)

This may sound dorky... but you're already young! Most teenagers really hate it to be young, so they act all mature and start dating and acting like a woman. But you have about 80 or so more years to live! The year for me when you start getting old is around 40's. Thats young for me. When you hit your 45's thats when you start getting gray hairs and start wishing you were a little kid again. So hon, right now... you are still a kid!!! Act like one! I'm 14 years old and all of my friends are already wearing make-ups, dating guys, and acting like they are 30. And now this is me- I am just a kid who has fun! I play sports, I'm not dating until i'm at least 18, I wear make-up only for special occasions. You're 16, enjoy it! Be a kid. Suuure that you're friends will think "oh my god, she's acting soo immature!" NOOO you're not! You're acting the way you're supposed to be. If you really miss you're childhood, go back to it! Go bowling or jump on the trampoline, gather your neighbors and play night games... do everything just like you were when you were 8. Trust me, It'll feel amazing. You have the rest of your life to become an adult... once you're an adult you'll wish to become like a kid again. So for right now, stick to being a kid. Its way to soon to start acting all grown up.

I hope I helped!
