Well it varies. You can go to a used car dealership and find some really cute cars for very cheap, it depends on the mileage thats on them though. My dads buying me a car also and I went shopping for one and I found a 2002 mitsubishi eclipse spyder for 6K, which is REALLY good. Just shop around, go to some dealerships and see what they have to offer, Im sure youll find something.. or you can look online at kellys blue book.com look up KBB or something on google, you'll get a website.

i really like Toyota Corrola's:

my mom had a toyota corrola as a rental car while her car was being fixed, and we both fell in love with it. is is small, but seats 5, and is very comfortable. i also trust toyota cars, so that is another advantage to the car.

ugh. i hate it when girls want cars... they never know anything about them and buy into shoddy makes like honda or toyota simply because they hear that, that's the kind of car to own. the fact is you shouldn't be asking anyone but a mechanic, or your parents what you should get.

cars are expensive. how much money is your father willing to spend?

insurance is expensive. any car you get will cost your parents a lot more in the long run to insure someone as young as you are.

it's a first car. most people wreck their first car. it's a known fact that a majority of people wreck their first car and so a newer car or fast car for a first car is a bad idea.

maintenence. the problem with a toyota, honda, nissan, DMW, mercedes, audi, volkswagen, or any other non american make is that it will cost more money to keep it running.

financing. to finance a car is to take out a loan from the bank to pay for the vehicle. problem with this is that you need to make payments on it once a month every month in order to keep the car. the loans are usually issued on a 24 month, 36 month, or even 60 month basis. so you will be stuck with this car's payments for a long time. and even if you wreck it you still have to pay off the cost of the vehicle. thing is though this is how most cars are purchased these days.

safety. as a young driver you want something safe. you want something reliable and you don't want something that will kill you insurance wise or any other way if you wreck it.

the cars i reccommend to you, you might not like. but know that these cars will be smart purchases. i'm a mechanic, i fix cars for a living, and i know what is good, and what isn't.

volvo:
740
850
940
S80
S70
240

ford:
crown victoria
focus
five hundred
fuaion

lincoln:
town car
LS

suzuki:
aero
verona

mercury:
grand marquis
marauder

mazda:
6(mazda speed6 prefferably)
3

these cars wont cost an arm and a leg to purchase, shouldn't keep you in the shop too often, and can be found for really good prices used. and get this insurance on them is not bad.

You can't just look for "cute" cars. Look for ones with safety as well. There are plenty of less expensive, attractive, safe cars that are perfect for a teenager.

Some examples would be a Honda Civic, Honda accord, chevy malibu, Hyundai Elantra, Mitsubishi Galant, Nisan Frontier (truck), and many more.

You can also check out some less expensive, attractive, teen safe cars.

im assuming that you are 16. I dont really have interest in cars even tho i probly should because i need to learn how to drive but heres what i can tell you. Do not get anything big aka a truck or van. Get something small maybe a civic or a beetle. Get a car that gets got gas mileage because you probly dont want to pay as much as alot of people pay for gas.

But get something you like. Plan a day and go to used car shops and just walk around and im sure you will find something you will like.

hope this helps

FrEe2bMe answered Monday September 4 2006, 7:01 pm:
Car preferences are always going to vary from person to person. Since you didn't really specify how much exactly your dad is going to be spending I am just going to assume between 5 and 10 thousand. Now, the best "bang for your buck" so to speak is generally going to be any car from the following makers: Nissan, Toyota, and Honda--and their higher ups..Ie:Infiniti, Lexus and Acura. There are several other great brands too, but these cars are NOT American made, have great resale value, and are virtually maintanence free, minus the usuals. While Mercedes and BMW are good cars their repair parts are extremely expensive. So, keep that in mind. If you search: Autotrader.com you can search by price and brand of car. Also, take note of the fact that while Kia and Huyndai brands are really affordable, they don't have a very reputable name. Also, smaller SUVs are cute, but they have a rough ride and are higher on gas. My personal suggestions would be something like:
Toyota: Corolla or Camry
Honda: Civic or Accord
Nissan: Maxima or Altima

:)

I like mini coopers a lot, and they're not super expensive. The aqua ones are the prettiest if you have a colour choice.
