Gum in hair

Question Posted Thursday August 24 2006, 9:56 pm

I wasn't sure what catagory to put this under. My 8 year old daughter has gotten bubble gum stuck in her beautiful long hair. What can we do to get it out without having to cut any of her pretty locks? Thanks!

My friend got gum on her jeans and her mom told her to freeze them. I would suggest putting ice on her hair for a bit.

Haha, well whenever I was younger, I got gum in my hair many-a-times and what my mother would do is put my head in the sink and she'd wash it out with either peanut butter, or mayonaise. I think she used mayonaise more though, cause she said it was easier to wash out. Here's some other suggestions from sites:

try freezing the section of hair with an ice pack or ice cube then using peanut butter. it's easier than peanut butter alone and less messy because you're not combining straight gum with mushy peanut butter.

put peanut butter in her hair overnight. That should take it out.

I believe I've read this in a magazine once... I think it was TIME.

You can use peanut butter (creamy, preferred) and try to rub the gum out.
