Baby shower gift for my brother's upcoming child

Question Posted Saturday August 19 2006, 9:37 am

I purchased a pair of socks for my brother's not-yet-born child and plan to give them as a gift at the baby shower, which is next month. These are really nice socks, made out of merino wool, and (for socks) they were kind of expensive.

However, I fear that if I just give a pair of socks at the baby shower, I will appear cheap and unwelcoming of the baby. Should I just give the socks but explain that they are 100% merino wool? Should I buy multiple pairs of merino wool socks? Should I buy an additional gift?

Incidentally, this baby will be the first full nephew I will have. My half-siblings have had seven children between them, but this is the first time a full sibling has had a child.

Do babies like wool socks? Is it that cold where the baby will live to need wool socks? I only ask, because I have been to a hundred baby showers and no one ever gave wool socks. Of course, I live in California, maybe you are from Alaska? If everyone or more importantly the parents to be are going to appreciate the gift, then you should not worry about anyone else. Wrap them with flair! If you are not sure that your gift will be appreciated or used, then return it and buy something they have registered for. If they did not register, then ask them what they would like or pick up a gift certificate...always appreciated!

You can leave the pricetag on the socks haha, even if its not the politest thing to do, they can see how much it costs. And just buy some other thigns to go with it, like a few baby blankets and some rattles :] Stuff them in a babby bag with some tissue paper and walla:]

it isnt5 about what you get it is about how much thought you put into the gift you could maybe right a little story for the unborn baby that his pearents could read to him you would just have to put it in a little journal that is nice looking and draw little pictures aswell or get the pics off the internet if you suck at drawing or you could even get a friend to draw them if you think this is a stupid idea you dont have to you could just get a cheap little basic and fill full of litle baby stuff

but if you like the book idea you could write it about anything maybe a little boy going to the park or about his pearents getting ready for him and how much he is loved look at childrens books for ideas

hope i helpeed tell me wat your plan is please and if you need anymore help you can email me at mizztalk_alot@hotmail.com

I am sure that whatever you give your nephew will be appreciated but if you feel like it isnt enough then you could go to the dollar store and get all kinds of stuff for babies like bibs or clothes or even diapers. they really have things that they could use that costs only about 3 dollars or so. That way you dont feel like what you got isnt good enough even though it is. Some people feel insecure about things like that but it is pefectly normal and if you just spend a couple more dollars on other things you will be fine. and if you tell them the details about the socks it would help them know.

Don't buy another pair of socks, but a matching hat, or something else that would go cute with the socks. Maybe an outfit, or a toy. Remember it's the thought that counts.

Hey, if you are tight on money because the socks were expensive, you could always make something. You could make a scrapbook of a baby theme. You put in spaces for photos and places to journal and cute stickers/and accents on each page. I did it with my mom for my cousin's baby shower. like one page could be "At the hospital" and another could be "baby's first bath". All your brother and his spouse have to do is put in the pictures and journal about the experiences. He'll appreciate it because it is homemade and he can keep it forever. If you still are confused how to get started then you could always visit a scrapbook store, or JoAnn's and look at a few magazines for Baby themed scrapbooks.
I really hope this helps! Tell me how it goes :)
