how do i convince them?

Question Posted Wednesday August 16 2006, 10:48 pm

I recently asked my parents for a cell phone, but they aren't giving in. 15/m by the way...i get good grades like all almost all A's. My parents said that money isn't the important thing, so I need some advice in convincing them to get me a phone? what could I say or do?

I would just have a talk with them and ask them why they don't want you to have a cellphone. Is it because they don't think you're responsible? Tell them you have all A's and you're working very hard in school [ and if they still say no, start acting more responsibly around the house ]. Also let them know that cellphones are very good for emergency purposes or if you ever need them for something. You don't know how many times I've needed picked up from somewhere, and if I didn't have my cellphone, I would have probably just been left there or something. You can even suggest getting a certain amount of minutes if they're possibly worried you might get distracted from your schoolwork or something. Maybe pay for like, 200 minutes or so. Even though that might not be alot, I think it's better than nothing though. Even suggest working around the house for it. But just keep asking for it. I kept asking for one for a year and then on my birthday, I finally got it. I hope I helped. <3

Explain to them how responsbile you are... you have almost all A's. By having a cell phone you will be able to be in contact with them at all times. that would really be helpful in case of an emergency.

Hey
I'm the same age as you and I have a verizon phone- it really has the best service and you can have great txt message plans so you can txt your friends a lot....
Now.. to convince your parents.. (if you are going into HS and have after-school activities).. tell them that they will need to be able to reach you when you stay after school- they'll need to know when to pick you up... (even though it is the same everyday.. it might change)...
If you want to go to someone's house after school or want to go hang out at a place in town with friends after school- you can call them and tell them you are going somewhere
With a phone they can easily reach you when they need to- because that moment always comes that you mom will need to talk to you right away

sorry.. this response is kinda vague.. so bear with me.. lol

Hope I helped
let me know how everything turns out!

Ok hun what I would do is tell mom/dad that you are responsible enough get 1 ones of those pay go phones and knowing that you are 15 you will be out alot more and they need away 2 reach you instead of wasting thoe quarters on a stupid pay phone which barley works.

Hope I helped

I would recommend trying to convince them to let you get a prepaid virgin mobile phone

- Its prepaid and you can put at little as $20 whenever you want (it says atleast every 90 days but they don't even pay attention to it.. so you can even but only $20 on every 100 days if you want)
- They don't have alot of mins so its a good phone to have incase of an emergency or something forgot to get you so its a good phone to keep that you can't run a bill up on

- you can't go over on your mins so you wont have to worry about overages

Its good to try to talk them into getting a phone for safety reasons. Being a guy its not as big of a deal but what if someone forgets to get you and you are alone in the dark? or if you injure yourself while out running and alls you have is your phone to call for help.

eventually my parents just gave into me and i got my first phone but i wasn't alowed to have aplan and i could only have prepaid.. also if you have the money you don't need to be 18 to get a virgin mobile phone so you can go get it yourself

Make a list of reasons you would need a cellphone. If you're out a lot, then you can tell them that it'd be easier for you to reach them in case of an emergency or something, and it'd be easier for them to reach you as well.

Also, you could try working for it. Tell them you'll do certain chores for a certain time frame if they'll get you the phone. Show them you'll be responsible about it and are mature. Don't fight or complain about it, talk rationally with them.

Good luck.
