sliming down for school

Question Posted Sunday August 13 2006, 4:52 pm

I'm 16, 5'3" and weigh 152 pounds. I just moved to a new state and am going back to visit my friends in 2 months. I'd like to drop 20-30 pounds before I go back, and also slim down my thighs and butt. I'm a vegetarian, I don't eat fast food, and I don't drink soda. But with 6 AP classes and a job it's hard to eat right most of the time. I barely even have time to workout but I do what I can at night and on the weekends. Is there anyway that I can drop the weight?

Pack a lunch and baggies of healthy snacks to munch on during the day. Make the baggies only as much as you think you should be eating in a sitting. Stick with crunchy veggies for snacks. They fill you up and give you a boost of energy. Carry a large bottle of water with you. A lot of people think they are hungry and end up eating more when they really just need to drink something.
Also, you didn't say whether you eat breakfast or not. If not, start eating something in the morning. Grab a piece of fruit as you run off to your classes. Breakfast kickstarts your metabolism, and fruit is a good way to do that. Add some cottage cheese for protein and calcium if you have time. If you chronically don't have time in the morning, get up 15 minutes earlier, 30 if you can. It isn't much, and it will give you time to start your day right.
Try not to have dinner too late, and avoid late night snacks.
And, most importantly, don't stress about the weight. Stress creates a response in your body that makes it even harder to lose weight. With 6 AP classes and a job, you are probably stressed enough. Perhaps try meditation in the evening to ease the stress? Combining it with light exercise will add to the weight loss.

Just stick to water and here's a site I found that might help you out:

[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

if that doesn't help you, trying googling up some other healthy eating food sites. And another thing you can do is, if your job isn't really far away, maybe even jog or walk to and back from work to get some exercise in during the day. Or if it is a little far, you can even just leave for your job a little earlier. But, I might insist walking cause if you jog, you might sweat, and I doubt you want to be sweating and such at work, ha.

and during the nights and weekends, maybe just do some crunches or do a little night walk around the neighborhood. to make it even a little more fun, just bring some music along or invite a friend to come with you. and that's another thing you can do. maybe just blast some music on at home and dance around so you'll be making yourself active while having fun.

i hope i helped!

don't just eat celery. ever. that is not a good plan.

it sounds to me like you're a junk food vegetarian. the key to a healthy diet (and weight maintenence) for a vegetarian (or a vegan) is vegetable variety. if you eat a lot of cheese and chocolates, cut down on them and eat a lot of hearty bean soups and tomato-based soups. a lot of milk and cheese isn't good for you if you don't have the time to work off the fat they contain. go for vegetables and plenty of variety in them. it really depends on what your diet is like now. there are many types of vegetarians. my choir teacher is a vegetarian and eats lots of cookies and cheese. he has a belly accordingly. I, however, am a vegan and I eat mainly beans and rices and various seasonal vegetables. I'm not by any means fit, but I'm healthy.

Stick to water.
& Celery will fill you up and has like no calories.
You could also try waking up like 30 minutes earlier and jogging around the block, that helps alot.

hope i helped =]
