curliecue answered Saturday August 12 2006, 10:40 pm: Eat small meals throughout the day rather than the traditional 3 set meals every day. If you can, try to eat the high-fiber foods before you eat the other stuff whenever you eat a meal. Fiber makes you feel fuller, so for instance, eat the salad before the pizza, or eat the apple before the peanut butter sandwich. Fruits veggies and whole grains are full of fiber. Start off your day with a fairly large meal that has plenty of carbohydrates(which includes fiber) and some protein. Drink water if you think you're hungry. It might just be thirst. Also, before you snack on something consider if you are really hungry or not. If it was truly hunger then you'd be satisfied with a bowl of regular oatmeal. If not, it's most likely a craving. Don't feel bad about eating so much as long as you are active, and you're eating the right foods in the right proportions. If you are trying to keep your mind off of food, I suggest getting out of the house or spending time with friends. Also, exercise will surpress your appetite, so maybe go for a walk if you find yourself thinking about food. These things work for me, you should give them a try. MikeCFT answered Friday August 11 2006, 5:22 pm: Iam going to go ahead and take my advice in a different direction than what is being prescribed. My solution- eat more. Here's why:
From the sound of it you don't eat very often during the day at regular intervals, you instead wait for 2 or 3 times out of the day to just cram food into yourself. This is a common problem with people who have trouble controlling their appetites. Now if you eat more, in smaller meals at regular 3 to 4 hour intervals then you will learn discipline above all, also you will learn portion control and how to manage time to fit your food schedule. Don't go and sit on the computer or read a book if you're hungry...it's signal and it happens for a reason, if you're hungry then go eat since hunger in and of itself is a sign that your body is eating itself since you didn't give it enough food. Instead of eating the cookies, grab an apple or a some yogurt and granola and read your book while eating that. You can only ignore hunger for so long until you just give in so you might as well give in while the hunger isn't absolutely raging. It takes time to get everything in order, you will not be able to just resist cookies and chips overnight..instead you have to reduce them gradually and let your body go through it's sugar withdrawal, and then take advantage by eliminating garbage food. Don't get all bent out of shape if you fail your first few tries at this...as long as you put your heart and soul into it, and if you do that then you're going to go far. isis answered Friday August 11 2006, 4:41 pm: Try using a smaller plate for your food, it fools your brain into thinking there is more there than there actually is. Drink a glass of water before each meal as it will make you feel fuller quicker. Eat 6 small meals a day, this should stop you from getting so hungry that it's hard to stop when you have eaten enough. It also speeds up your metabolism so that fat gets burnt up quicker.
If you're eating too much from boredom, find a hobby, preferably one that occupies your hands, this will stop you thinking about food all the time and if your hands are busy, they won't automatically reach for snacks etc. (Unless of course you take up cooking, which would not be a good idea at the moment). Make sure you have prepared snacks at the ready, like carrot or celery sticks, or low fat/low cal snacks. Promise yourself a treat at the weekend if you have been good all week. A small bar of chocolate etc is a good reward to look forward and may help to keep you focused.
Hope that helps and good luck. [ isis's advice column | Ask isis A Question ]
XkittyOkatX answered Friday August 11 2006, 8:21 am: There are some simple ways on how to control yourself. It's not all in how MUCH you eat, either, it's what you eat. If you find you're hungry, try to eat a low fat snack, and if possible, make it something that will fill you so you wont need more snacks.
Also, try to stop eating after dinner, since most people find they lose control when late night binging can occur. Maybe put a sign on the door that says 'are you really that hungry?' and make sure you take the question into consideration.

bigboy13 answered Friday August 11 2006, 3:46 am: well it all depends on your age but your probably just going through a growth speart witch is where you eat alot because your body is growing rapidly and it is completley normal.
but if your still concerned one way to get rid of hunger is to drink water when ever you get hungry. another way is to keep your self busy so your brain won't think of it so much.
ductape_n_roses answered Friday August 11 2006, 1:58 am: when you want to eat, pick up a book, use the cpu, or do something to keep you distracted. even esercise.
brush your teeth right after each meal because it will lower your urge to eat since toothpaste and food doesnt taste too pretty.
when you eat meals, eat only a set amount. dont get a second plate or heap your plate a mile high iwth food.
b/w breakfast and lunch/lunch and dinner, eat a healthy snack like fruits or veggies (only a small proportion) it wil help you resist seconds plates
eat slowly and take at least 20min since it takes 20min for your brain to aknowledge the food in your body and to tell you when you're full.
