I'm addicted to soda. I'm average weight, and other then soda, I'm very healthy. My doctor says the soda is addding extra fat on my tummy and thighs, so I should stop drinking it so much. I drink about 2 cans a day, sometimes more. Its alot I know, I've tried stopping so many times. Cold turkey hasn't work, neither has slowly reducing how much I drink. Any other ideas?
Lola answered Tuesday August 8 2006, 4:18 am: Try drinking like other fresh healthy juice (orange, mango, apple, strawberry) and drink even twice a day. And then if you still get thirstly drink lots of water. and then you won't even feel thirsty anymore to drink soda. [ Lola's advice column | Ask Lola A Question ]
XXoMo answered Tuesday August 8 2006, 1:00 am: Well,
Two sodas is alot in a day. You should try taking step by step. First try only having one a day and hats when you absolutley HAVE to have one. Then after you are fine with just having one a day you should try taking another step and only having 1 every two days. After you have gotten used to that, you should try having i a week, meaning one every five days if you cant handle that then you can have two a week until you feel fine enough to go down to one. You should try other juices and drink LOTS of water in the meantime. And to get rid of the the flab around your thighs and tummy by doing cruntches and puchups and stuff like that.
If you REALLY want to cut down on the soda you drink and stay focused to the step by step procedure then youll be down to one or two cans a week in no time. :]

Peachgirly answered Monday August 7 2006, 11:52 pm: I had the same situation and I was so addicted to soda that I would have a couple of cans per day. I really wanted to lose weight so I switched to diet sodas. Diet sodas may taste a little strange at first but eventually you won't really notice the difference between regular and diet. Also, make sure that you drink diet sodas when it is chilled or else, it just doesn't taste right. Then, you should change the amount of diet soda that you have per day and switch it to one can a day and then to one can a week. Instead of drinking soda, drink a lot of water. Ever since I switched to diet sodas, I lost 10 pounds. Another thing that would help is if you tell your parents to stop buying soda and you would have no choice but to drink something else.
If you think of all of the negative effects of drinking soda it might help you.
1)regular and diet sodas cause cavities. One time, I went to the dentist and I had so much cavities from drinking soda that the dentist had to give a bunch of filings. That was a horrible experience.
2) You are probably a caffeine addict. If you feel sluggish, act irritable or get a headache on days when you don't have soda then you are addicted to caffeine. Remember that one can of soda has 40 miligrams and make sure that you change the amount of soda that you have per day.
3) Take a look at the nutrition label at the back of the can of regular soda. One can of soda has about 210 calories. When you exercise to burn off those calories from that one can of soda, it would take about 45 minutes to an hour depending on the type of cardio. From that one workout, you would probably feel exhausted. [ Peachgirly's advice column | Ask Peachgirly A Question ]
willyoucatchme answered Monday August 7 2006, 10:46 pm: You could always try diet soda instead of regular. It's much better for you, but it still allows you to feel as if you are drinking soda. Just experiment. I'm sure you'll find that diet drinks aren't all bad. [ willyoucatchme's advice column | Ask willyoucatchme A Question ]
kristen22 answered Monday August 7 2006, 10:18 pm: God don't I understand what your going through. I used to could drink a 6-pack of bottled sundrop (soda here in NC) a day like it wasnt nothin. Tell yourself that from now on, it's only going to be a special treat-that's what I do. I still drink it because I love it, but now it's just a "reward" instead of a "I cant drink anything but that" kinda thing. [ kristen22's advice column | Ask kristen22 A Question ]
hotpotato answered Monday August 7 2006, 10:05 pm: Urm, actually, replacing one addiction with another is sort of bad too. How about cold turkey bribery, like set up a reward system for yourself. Also, can your parents help? I used to drink SO MUCH all the time. My dad somehow tried to not keep soda in the house at all.. [ hotpotato's advice column | Ask hotpotato A Question ]
caramella answered Monday August 7 2006, 9:46 pm: Its very dangerous to drink so much soda cuz it has a HELL lot of sugar and too much sugar leads to diabetes!!!!And if you get diabetes you will NEVER be able to as much as LOOK at soda. Its because of the nicotine in it so its kinda addictive at times.Dont reduce any amount.Just try to go through ONE day without drinking any then the next day will be easier and so on.Try drinking something eles like gatorade or something.
