anorexic

Question Posted Thursday July 20 2006, 8:48 pm

14/f...i've been trying to eat less calories and stay thin. a daily eating pattern is this

breakfast -- a vanilla crisp Special K bar
lunch -- one red apple and one chewy bar
dinner -- whatever my dad makes (it varies everyday from hot dogs to pasta)

but all of the sudden my dad has been trying to get me to eat more food. he is always thinking that if i eat too little then i'm going to become anorexic. whenever my dad cooks he makes me eat more then i want to eat to stay thin. what can i do? and today him and my mom started saying that they don't like how i eat a special K bar for brerakfast. they want me to eat something more suitable for breakfast like cereal..but that would put more calories into my diet and make me gain weight.

Actually there are a lot of healthy cereals out there. Cheerios is one obvious healthy choice. There are tons of others. A Special K bar isn't made for growing teenagers, so yes your parents are right on that one. Also, you're not eating enough if you only eat an apple and a "chewy bar" for lunch. You're going to start gaining weight if you don't eat more. When you eat too little (like what you are doing), your body goes into "starvation mode" and thinks you're starving so it stores fat. Therefore you will NOT lose weight this way. You need to be eating 1,800 to 2,000 calories a day. Look at your foods and see how many calories you're eating. If it's way under, then add some more until you get to at LEAST 1,800. It might seem like a lot but it's not.

To lose weight, you need to eat 1,500 to 1,800 a day. To stay your same weight, 1,800 to 2,000 a day. To gain weight, 2,300+ calories daily.

FYI, eating under 1000 calories sends your body into starvation mode, and it will store fat and you will eventually gain weight.
If you want to lose weight, eat healthily and aim for a little over 1000 calories a day, or exactly on it.
If you want to maintain weight, balance your meals. Don't eat a ton of sugar, don't eat a ton of carbs, eat fruits and veggies, and protein. Make sure you get protein (meat, cheese, eggs, etc)
Think about this: 1 pound = 3500 calories.
Worry less about calories and more about carbs and sugar, especialyl if you're not a very active person. Carbs are the hardest things to burn off. Aim for things under 20 carbs. Stay away from white bread - whole grain anything is considerably better.
If you do all that, you should be fine.

A better breakfast for you to eat would be like :: Egg whites, probably better off scrambled than fried, but egg whites are okay. Stay away from toast or any other kind of breads if you want to lose weight. Maybe with your eggs you can eat a banana..or an apple?

your dad is right. cereal is a better breakfast. although special k bars are low in calories they are loading with sugar. you are better off eating like plain cerios or an egg.

Also for lunch i would eat something better than a chewy bar. Maybe try a salad, bowl of oatmeal or tuna

also cutting calories doesnt help you loose weight. in the short run.. yes you will but in the long run you wil acually gain weight

i would stick to watching trans fat and sugar.. that is a better idea. or try a program like weight watchers (like i have the book and papers i never acually went to a meeting but they are good tools)

and when eating dinner try something like boneless skinless chicken if you can or whole wheat pasta or fish.

Breakfast, as they say, is the most important meal of the day. One special K bar is in no way enough for breakfast. Try toast or cereal...
Your body needs different nutrients. Try having some variety!
You need calories. Calories give you energy to burn. Plus, thin people burn calories easily because of high metabolism.
Good luck! ems :)

u need to eat a lot for breakfast. Not going ou of control eating or anything but more than a special k bar. Most of what you eat at breakfast gets burned off. Breakfast gets your metabolism going. If you don't eat enough at breakfast then your metabolism will be slow and burn less calories throughtout the day. That is also why you need to eat more at lunch. You need to keep eating enough to keep your metabolism going. Not saying you should fill up on junk food. You can eat healthy food, but more of it.
hope i helped.

1 special K bar for breakfast isn't enough. Ditto with an apple and chewy bar.

When you're eating, just keep eating until you're full. You're only 14; you need more energy. A bowl of cereal will not make you gain weight, unless it's something like Fruit Loops.

You NEED calories. Calories are energy. Everything you do burns up calories; walking, typing, digesting food. An average woman requires 2000 calories a day. Apples have a lot of calories anyway. Considering that apples are VERY high in fructose, an apple has 500 calories. Too much calories will be stored up as fat. But if you're thin, your body's metabolism will burn it all up.

It's not the AMOUNT of food that counts as much as the CONTENT of the food.

What I would advise is that you don't worry so much about the calories unless you have a slow metabolism and you've had past experiences with obesity. If you cut the calories too much, then you'll have no energy. I once went on a long walk without eating anything, and I got very sick. Don't learn the hard way.

its ok for more calories you cant tell your stomach that a small bowl of cereal seriously wont hurt and at night b4 you sleep do like 100 situps or 50 so you can lose all the extra calories and more that you dont want
