so self conscience
my friend wears a bikini, shes not the skinnest girl in teh world but isn't like obese or anything. she is kind of over weight. so when we get out of the pool, she runs to the ladder, and runs to her towel and throws on her shirt. my question is, if she is SO self conscience, why doesn't she just wear a one piece or a tankini?

Maybe she wants to wear the same thing everyone else does. She obviously wants to look and feel like she is allowed to wear a bikini.
While she's in the water she probably feels like the water is covering her and no one notices or cares what she looks like so she feels comfortable. Whereas when she gets out maybe she doesn't feel so confident.
Just remember you are her friend, give her confidence. Maybe once in a while you could wear a one piece so she doesn't feel like only bigger people wear them.

well if your actually IN the pool, you dont notice overweightness as much because the water ripples. also, bikinis are better for tanning

Probably because she doesn't like a one piece. I am self conscious in a bathing suit, but I'd never wear one of those. Plus, maybe she want's to get a tan. No big deal.

That's a good question. Some girls think they look better in a bikini. Or maybe She wants to get a good tan. I have also heard that when someone looks at you underwater, when they're above water, you don't look as big. But I would probably go with the tan idea. Even if she doesn't layout and try to get a tan, she will. If she thinks she's fat like you say she does, She would probably run to put on her shirt no matter what she was wearing. When youre self consieous, you have your mind in one place and it would be really hard to get people to change it. Hope I helped.
