pinkers answered Thursday July 20 2006, 3:11 pm: go to walmart or target and get what is called a hot oil treatment and use one every week. They work WONDERS. Also, i would recommend using a shampoo for dry and damaged hair. [ pinkers's advice column | Ask pinkers A Question ]
chly1chly answered Thursday July 20 2006, 11:26 am: I used to straighten my hair also. I tried the Redken products, and found that they really worked in controlling your frizz and making you hair softer and smoother. [ chly1chly's advice column | Ask chly1chly A Question ]
orphans answered Thursday July 20 2006, 1:28 am: Hm. You're not straightening it.. But are you blow-drying it? Heat could be damaging your hair. Also, get a moisturising shampoo/hairconditioner. SUNSILK is the best. You should go to walmart.com and get a free sample of sunsilk to see which one fits you. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
hannahd answered Thursday July 20 2006, 1:24 am: I suggest S-Factor Dream Drop. I got it @ Toni & Guy for $30. I'm not sure where else they sell it, but it works wonderfully. I'm sure there are cheaper anti-frizz products you can get at the grocery store. Anything by John Frieda or Paul Mitchell works decent & is still affordable. xoKimFryeox answered Thursday July 20 2006, 12:27 am: Buy an anti-frizz product from a hair salon. I use john frieda frizz-eaze, or ANYTHING from the VO5 line SURPRISINGLY works well. Your hair is probably just recovering from all the damage that was done to it from your straightener. You can straighten your hair, just dont make it an every day thing, within a couple of months your hair will be fine. [ xoKimFryeox's advice column | Ask xoKimFryeox A Question ]
thencalliesaid answered Wednesday July 19 2006, 11:56 pm: Hair is made up of dead keratin, so it can't heal itself. Your best bet is to slowly cut off the dead ends and start fresh. But in the mean time there are ways to make your hair appear to be "healthier".
Hot oil treatments- I personally don't recommend them for one reason. The oil molecule is simply too large to penetrate the hair shaft. All they do is leave a layer of oil on the outer hair shaft which does result in smoother hair but give it a day and you'll see what I mean. Instead, use a cream based, deep conditioner 2 times a week.
Get regular trims every 6-8 weeks to trim off the spilt ends
Cut back on blow drying
When blow-drying, force the air in he direction of your hair growth so you don't disturb the cuticle anymore then you have to.
Use gentle cleansing shampoos
Use daily conditioners and even better, use a leave-in conditioner as well
Rinse with cool water as your final rinse to close the cuticle and prevent further damage.
Keep use of heating products to a minimum if possible. And always use a styling product that specifically protects hair during heat process.
Scalp treatments can do wonders. Ask your Stylist if she offers this service. Not only does it stimulate hair growth and condition your hair, it feels great!
Use products that don't contain alcohol
Deep condition at least 2 times a week. Apply the conditioner to clean, damp hair. Put a shower cap on and hit it with the blow dryer. This will open up the cuticle and condition your hair better.
Avoid shampoos that are clear in color. These shampoos are refereed to as plain shampoos. Plain shampoos contain little to no moisturizer. Opt for a pearlized one that is made for dry, damaged hair. Shampoo is important but no as much as conditioner
