drinking & headaches

Question Posted Wednesday July 19 2006, 2:45 pm

During the first few weeks of summer me and my friends went out and drank for a couple of nights. I can drink alot because I have a high tolerance and I never get hangovers. But throughout the entire week that we were doing this, I had a headache. It wasn't a bad one, but no matter how much medicene I took, it just didn't go away. It never stopped untill I finally stopped drinking for the week. Could it have been an ongoing hangover since we did it every night? Or was it related to something else? thanks.

I'm convinced that drinking the entire week could have very well been the cause of your headache; for 1) the lack of sleep & stress on your body & 2) possible cause of dehydration.

Ok drinking could have deffinitely been the cause of your headache. First of all, it dehydrates you, so if you did it a couple of days in a row and didn't drink plenty of water during the day to hydrate your body, that's a problem. dehydration leads to hangovers, and headaches are deffinitely a part of a hangover!

Also, when you go to sleep drunk, you don't really get the kind of sleep you get when you go to bed sober. When you are drunk, your body doesn't function the way it is supposed to, and when you go to bed in that condition you may not reach REM, which is the part of the sleep cycle during which you dream and really get your rest. lack of sleep can deffinitely give you a headache!

lastly, you said you took over the counter medications to get rid of the headache. most medications like this contain acetaminophen, which you should not take while consuming alcohol... especially a lot of alcohol! this can cause serious liver damage so don't do it in the future!

basically, to prevent this from happening in the future, i don't recomend drinking heavily more than 2 days in a row. drink plenty of water before bed and during the day, try to take a quick nap during the day, and don't mix alcohol with over the counter medications if the label on the box says not to! :) let me know if you need more help!

Your body may have been able to handle all the alcohol in the past, but chances are it wasn't used to all this alcohol regularly. Ease up a bit and don't drink every night. Your body isn't used to having beer that regularly. :]

i think the problem is your body is not use to all of the alcohol you are consuming. If you want to do things like that you will have to take a little more each time you drink and mix your drinks with juices and stuff to help you from gettin sick. Alcohol can lead to other problems as well if you drink i all the time as long as you don't drink a lot for a long time you should be okay. So just ease up a bit and take things slow.

it probably was because since you had too much alchohl in your blood stream and you got a headache. what you should do is drink les like maybe every other night and only 3 drinks a night. i hope i helped.
