Just because of the fact that they need to know what kinda birth control to give you... There gonna ask you lots of questions. Everyone makes pap smears sound so bad and nasty.. but honestly there really not that bad... you just feel pressure [ badgrl6903's advice column | Ask badgrl6903 A Question ]

Having a pap smear is not necessary unless you've been sexually active for a long amount of time (but that could differ depending on your doctors practice). They will tell you about how it works, how to take it, and the risks of being on it. Then they will give you the pills and after you understand everything, you will be on your way!

Then you will have to have a yearly pelvic exam to have the prescription renewed.
If you have never had one, this site will explain it all to you. Lots of good info all over this site so take a look around while you are there. :)

Some state/country laws require that one or both parents must give consent for you to receive birth control if you are under a certain age, usually 18 or 16. I suggest calling up a health clinic such as Planned Parenthood and asking them about the laws for your area. If your area does not have any laws, you probably will not need a pap smear, but your doctor may recommend one. If you go to your primary care physician, or a clinic, the doctor/nurse practitioner will do a quick exam and ask questions about your health. If you go to a clinic like Planned Parenthood, they will probably give you lots of information about safe sex and even free condoms. Depending on your age and financial situation, PP may give you monthly birth control for free or no cost. I hope this helped. [ Roxcyn's advice column | Ask Roxcyn A Question ]
DancinCutie08 answered Friday July 14 2006, 7:48 pm: It all depends on where you go and your reasons for wanting it. some doctors may want you to get the all clear from the gyno others do not. Before you go on birth control changes are they will check out your period and if its not reg they will try to determine why first [ DancinCutie08's advice column | Ask DancinCutie08 A Question ]
