period/beach?

Question Posted Thursday July 13 2006, 4:10 pm

ok well i'm going on vacation tomorrow to the beach, & i just got my period today. this isn't the first time i got it, the first time was in may, i actually got it twice in may and never got it in june. well i'm going to the beach, and i'm going to be wearing a bathing suit/going in the water. [i'm not like a person that will be swimming underwater, i'd probably just be like jumping the waves lol] it's not like i'm going to be in the water the whole time, just in and out. i've only been wearing pads though, not tampons. i've heard that your period stops when you're in the water but what about when i'm out of the water? should i just wear a tampon [i've never worn one before] would it be okay to wear a pad? idk what to do! please help? thankss :]

This is a touchy subject so Im shocked that Im answering this question.

Your period will stop when you go in the water, but as soon as you come out of the water it starts up again. I am a swimmer and I had to sit a week out because I couldnt figure out how to use a tampon. Tampons are really a gift from God. You should start with a slimfit size because they are really small. You can wear tampons for up to 8 hours, just remember that its there! You can sleep in them, but I dont like to because Im deathly afraid of TSS.

If you are confused about the tampon thing, just keep trying. It took me a year to finally figure them out.

Hope I helped.

Ok well thats exactly the problem i had a few weeks ago. i hadnt used a tampon before that. i taught myslef. its really not that bad at all. used the samll ones at first. is you use some kind of lubricant its easier. i know its a touchy subject. you can leave them in for about 5 hours. but youll want to change it more ofetn just in case. it tells you how to use them righ ton th ebox. if i can figure it out you can. and just wear them every day untill you sleep wear pads. never wear tampons to bed. so there ya go! they are easy to use and not nearly as bad as eveyone thinks. and yes water does stop it but as soon as you get out o fthe water it will come gith back. so definatley use tampons. or dont swim.

Ok the same thing happened to me when i went on vacation with my bf and his family!!! i used to alwayz wear pads now i only wear tampons it's way easier and believe me it was really scary at first but you get used to it quick because it is so comfy...so just try tampons, and get the slim ones to start out with it's easier cause they are smaller. hope i helped!

Wear a tampon, trust me. Your period doesn't stop underwater, but if you aren't going super heavy, then the blood just washes away, and you cant see it. But since you are going to be in and out of the water, you should definitely wear a tampon. You can't wear a pad in the water. I didn't wear tampons until like months after I first got it, but once I made the transition, I was so glad, because they are SO MUCH BETTER. They make life way easier. good luck!

You should definatly wear a tampon. They are easier to deal with, and after you put the first one in you'll feel more comfortable with it. Just pop it in and try not to think about it. Alot of times I forget I'm on my period when I'm wearing one. :) Your period does not stop in water. Good luck hun!!

omg thats so funny! the same thing happend to me wen i went on vacation. the best thing for you to is probly to use a tampon. sometimes wen you where a pad in the water they like blow up.the first time i used a tampon was right before i went to the beach too, so believe me they work ah-lot better than pads.

The same thing happened to me. It was my 2nd period ever & we were on vacation. So I wore a tampon. & let me tell you, the firs time you put it in you're like, "Holy shit, what the hell." Because it pushes all the blood up. & after you wear a tampon 1 time you're not gonna wanna wear them again. But believe me, they are so much better. You don't have to worry about the stench or leaking through 24/7. You have to worry about leaking through once it overflows. But it holds more. Some people say your period stops underwater but others say it doesn't. So don't always trust it.

Hope I helped.

I think you probably can. I went river-rafting on my period, and it went okay. Just make sure you wear two pads instead of one, because one might not be enough :)
