dog athsma?

Question Posted Monday July 10 2006, 2:44 pm

I have a pet dog ( cocker spaniel/bishon frisée mix if that helps lol)and he randomly starts shaking, he tenses up and starts wheezing. My parents think it might be athsma but none of us really know what it is. He is an older dog, about 9 years old, so maybe its just a sign of getting older. I'm worried about him, he's been doing that for a while...

It could be asthma, then again depending on the type of wheeze, it could be a heart cough, especially with the other symptoms. Cocker Spaniels are inclined towards heart problems, the fact that he is a mix may give him extra strength in that area, but he really does need to see a vet to make sure.
Whatever the problem, the earlier he is seen, the more successful any treatment is likely to be.
Hope that helps and the best of luck to you and your dog.

It's normal for toy breeds to wheeze and some also shake when they get cold, nervous, or exited. If you get to worried about your dog I would call a vet. They can help you to decide whether or not your dog is healthy or has anything wrong with him. That way you can get rid of your anxiety. I would say the best thing for you to do is google "toy breeds wheezing" and then "toy breeds shaking" You would be suprised at how much information you will come up with.

It could be both asthma and aging. I'd recommend taking it to a vet ASAP. Especially since it's been going on for a while. If you keep letting it happen, it could get worse.

I hope this helped =)
