Permanent Hair Straightening

Question Posted Friday July 7 2006, 11:30 pm

My hair is really poofy. Even after I straighten it bottom layer, then top. I've bleached my hair and all that good stuff. I was wondering, if I got my hair chemicaly straightened, would that make it non-poofy?

Sorry, for the bad spelling.

I have the same problem with poofiness as you and I've tried multiple shampoos, conditioners, sprays, gels, cremes, masques, the whole nine yards. And the one thing that's honestly worked for me is from a new line of Sunsilk products. Get the one that says 'anti poof' on the front, and it's in a blue bottle if that helps lol. But it doesn't do anything for straightening or frizz-control, so you'll most likely still have to use an iron.
Good luck.

getting your hair chemically straightened would make it non-poofy. also just so u know if you do it and is a little frizzy, then get some john frieda frizz-control stuff. i use it and it works for me.
if you need to ask me more questions or need more advice, ask me in my advice column.

Lucky us! I have very poofy and curly hair so im the right person to talk to. Put stuff in your hair when u straighten it, like I use grease (for black peoples hair) and i put it in before i straighten each section of my hair with a flat iron

well... um probably not because what probably happened is you fried it... if you get it permed straight then it will just get worse... what you need to do is get a special kind of shampoo and go get your hair at least trimed... if not cut.. so that you can go get all the dead ends off of it... and while you are at it tell them that you want to get it thined out and they can do that for you its not really that difficult... but what ever you do DO NOT put any more chemicals in your hair... it will just make it worse believe me my best friend does that kind of stuff all the time and she never listens to me until after she does it and screws her hair up even more... i hope i helped

chemically hair straightening is good if you have a LOT of hair. I mean, you still have to straighten it, but what it does is it makes your hair less poofy, frizzy, and thin. It would be good for you, but you lose some hair; so make sure your hair is thick enough. Go to a special salon to do it, not the do it yourself ones.

Vikki27 answered Saturday July 8 2006, 1:01 pm:
In theory yes but it isn't necessarily the best answer. I found that straightening my hair made it less poofy (actually what I call it too!) but was warned away from permanent straightening by a reputable hairdresser. Although it can be a good idea, if you have thin, weak or brittle hair, it will completely destroy it. The chemicals they use for the procedure are quite strong and will do long term damage, no matter how good the condition of your hair is. So although it would work, make sure you check with a good hairdresser (that doesn't offer it and would therefore be impartial) whether or not your hair type would be suitable for this.

Your hair is probably even more poofy since you bleached it, and usually that makes peoples hair really coarse and makes it dry.
I know a girl who got her hair chemicaly straightened, who usually had quite poofy hair and it looked much better. It looked smooth and straight, so yes it would make it less poofy. But sometimes it drys out the bottom tips of your hair.
