underweight but fat??

Question Posted Wednesday July 5 2006, 10:27 pm

14/f. i've checked my BMI on many sites and some sites say that i'm underweight and some say that i'm normal. My BMI is around 17. but i still have some fat around my lower stomach. is it still safe to do crunches and exercise to try to lose that fat? i'm 14, 5'3" and i weight about 98 pounds. but my stomach is still buldgie. what can i do? without becoming underweight?

I think it's perfectly fine to exercise and you will build muscle which may raise your weight depending on how much muscle you actually build.

Also, you are still growing and you will most likely gain weight within the next few years even if you exercise and are eating right. It's just part of growing up. So go ahead with exercising, crunches and whatever else, just make sure you're eating right and you'll stay healthy.

wow! 98 and 14? your deffinetly underweight already so you shouldnt be worrying. someone around your age and height should be a healthy 110-5 lbs. exercise daily but not excessevly and eat healthily that should tone your stomach and build your muscle for a healthy weight and look hope i helped much luck <3

Those sites are great but if you were to see a doctor he would probly tell you that you are underweight because a person your height is supposed to weigh around 115 pounds. Yes you can do crunches but you may want to ask a doctor for a weight chart & see if you are underweight. And if you need to gain or lose weight.

crunches work your upper abdomen.
leg lifts work your lower abdomen.
definatly dont work just your upper abdomen because that builds bulk while lower abdomen work makes your stomach flat. this might actually make you gain a couple pounds cuz muscle weighs more than fat!

ONE: lucky, i hate you. =P. 98 pounds & 5'3? pshh. i'm 105 & 5 foot. so you suck. ha no just playin..

Maybe, you just think your fat. Like, sometimes I think I'm fat. & then I go to like the pool & she all my friends there who I think our skinny, in bathing suits, & like my stomach is way tinier. It's just how you view yourself. I usually ask my mom, if I'm actually like fat. Or something.. because my mom is very honest. Try it. Ask your mom, or someone you know that is very honest. & go from there..
