Question Posted Sunday July 2 2006, 9:31 pm

Hey guys. Right now, I'm a bit sad. For as long as I can remember, my number one priority in life has been softball. It's all I ever wanted to do. When, I lived with my mom, it was all I ever DID. I moved in with my dad when I was about 9, going on 10. I still played softball, and I still loved the game with all my heart. I made all-stars every year I played. Then, one year after we lost a game, my all-star coach made us practice right afterwards. We were all too hot and worn out, and my dad was furious with this, and told my coach I quit. This happened when I was about 12. Ever since then, I haven't made the all-stars team, and I see myself becoming worse and worse. I would do anything to play softball in college, but I don't think I'm going to make it. I'm now going to be a sophomore in high school, and I'm on the high school team. I want to get better, and help myself. But I don't know how. I also need confidence, something I lack tremendously. I'm going to the World Cup of Softball in July, and I just want to be able know that there's a chance I could be there one day. Maybe not on the Olympic team, but a college team, one that is highly respected, like the Texas Longhorns. It is my dream to play for them. I guess I'm sad because I know I'm not going to make it to where I want to be with softball. I don't really know what my question is, but could someone just help me?

you can anything you put your mind to! go after your dream sweetie! what you need to do is forget the past, and focus on the future to accomplish your dream! set personal goals for yourself, practice hard, go to some softball clinics or camps, and if you work hard..you WILL make it! it will take hard work..but in the end you will be so happy..it will all be worth it. go after your passion..dont let it slip away! look up camps, clinics, etc. Look up colleges where you want to play, maybe talk to recruiters to see what they are looking for, email the coach of the college you want to play for when you get there..but most of all play hard and never give up!!! :)

Well there's your problem. You just said "..i know i'm not going to make it " . You don't know that your not going to make it. Don't be so hard on yourself, i would try taking some softball cliniques or working with your high school coach and ask him/her what they think you need to improve on. I'm sure that they are there to help. Maybe because your dad quit for you, you lost a lot of confidence in youself. It might seem like your dad quit for you because you lost. It also doesn't help that your coach made you practice afterwords. It may have made you feel like you weren't good enough and had to practice more..and that makes you loose confidence in yourself. Good luck! :)

So ok Let me try to get this...your dad said you quit, but then you went back, and now you aren't making allstars?

I see what's wrong. Since you don't make Allstar's anymore, you're becoming worse and worse. Well do you know why you are becoming worse? Because you're giving up!!! The reason you are you are lacking in softball is just because your not making allstars!!! Do you know what that means?! That means you've got to work harder! Of course a position on the texas longhorns isn't going to come to you on a plate. You have to work for it!! Does your coach not like you?! Work harder at practice, and he (or she.) will take notice. If you think you are getting worse, then practice outside of practice with a friend or your dad or just yourself!! Run a mile every morning! You have to work for what you want! If you are feeling unconfident, just imagine yourself pitching (or whatever position you like.) For the Longhorns and that will give you more adrenaline to be better. imagine yourself being the mia hamm of softball and going all the way to the world cup and WINNING! Just think about all that and you will be more confident in yourself!! Why don't you think you're going to make it in softball?! Your only a sophmore!! I can imagine you saying that when you're like 60!! but not when your 15! (or 16!) You still have the rest of your life to go where you want to go!

You need to stop saying that you're not good enough and that you will never make that team. You don't know that. If you think that you're not as good as you used to, practice twice as hard. Practice makes perfect and since you love softball so much, I think that you will play in collage. You need to be confident in yourself and that you can do it. Yeah you might be behind a little, but that doesn't mean that you won't ever be as good as you used to. So, like I said. Just practice. You already love the game, so instead of worrying about missing one or two things, think of it as an oppritunity for yourself to get better. Does that make sence? You're really good at softball and you know you are but you just need to be confident that you can and will be better. Don't be so hard on yourself. Have fun and relax when you're playing. You'll end up fine and have a good attitude about it. I guess you know how much confidence is important so someday, you will play in collage.

Oh I know exactly what you mean, and I love the Texas Longhorns and wanna play for them too!!! lol
First off, don't say you can't do it. Most of softball is mental, seriously. Practice drills at home that your learned at softball practice, go to softball camps, get lessons for hitting. Have one of your parents or friends practice with you, play catch and hit fly balls and grounders to you. Always be confident and say you can. I heard in hitting like 90 something percent is mental, it's same w/ playing defence too. Most of the errors you will ever make is mental. Don't worry and don't give up! DON'T DOUBT YOURSELF!!! You still have a chance to be on the Olympic team if you try, their ending the team in 2008 though. :[ JUST GO FOR IT!!
