My maltese (about 2 and a half years old) has been acting a bit strange lately: not eating as much or going 'doing his business'. I also noticed that his nose has changed color, from black to a brownish pink. Is that normal? Should I take it to the vet or will it be ok after some time? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

You should always take your dog to the vet if they are not eating or not "doing its business". If he remains to not do his normal stuff in the next 24 hours, take him to the vet so he can get better. Hope this helps : ) [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
abbyxoxo answered Sunday July 2 2006, 9:35 pm: im not an expert on dogs, but i do have one. the pinkish nose doesnt have anything to do with his behavior, like my dog has done, your dog is probably digging holes or sticking his nose in the dirt. as far as behavior, your dog could possibly have lime disease, im not possitive, but its possible. my dog had lime disease and he didnt do much but lie around the house. just to be safe i would have him checked out at the vet. good luck =] [ abbyxoxo's advice column | Ask abbyxoxo A Question ]

The nose colour change could be vitaligo, which is a loss of skin pigmentation.
The not eating and not eliminating waste could indicate bowel problems. Amongst the possiblities are that he could have swallowed a foreign body that has lodged in his gut and is not allowing the correct digestion or a viral infecton. There are many other reasons for his behaviour so he really does need to see a vet as soon as possible. If there is something wrong with him, the sooner he is seen the more likely it is that he can be treated successfully.
Hope that helps and good luck. [ isis's advice column | Ask isis A Question ]
