Easy Dishes

Question Posted Tuesday June 27 2006, 9:16 am

What are some easy dishes to make that doesn't really include specific amounts of ingredients? For example, chicken noodle soup? I can't think of anything right now. Well, thanks a lot!

chicken noodle soup from scratch:

get a pot and fill it with water. bring to a boil. while its doing that, get a 3-5 drumsticks, rinse them, and throw them in. then peep 1-2 large onions, cut them in half, and also add to the water. also get some carrots, if theyre baby carrots dont do anything with them, just throw them in. if youre using large carrots, chop them in half first.

let that boil slightly for about an hour or so, or until you are satisfied with the flavor. you might want to add some salt at this point. take out all the solids from the broth. you can throw out the onions, but leave the carrots and chicken.

to get chicken bits, take each drumstick, and peel of the meet from the bone. it should come right off. then you can tear it with your fork. add the desired amount of meat to the broth. then neatly cut the carrot into pretty peices, and also place in the soup.

then get a bowl that youre gonna eat from, place some boiled pasta on the bottom (i prefer angelhair by the way) and pour some broth over the top.

its really simple and REALLY good. its a home recipe thats been passed down from generation to generation in our family.

If you want something that doesn't require specific amounts of ingredients, all I can say is definitely DO NOT try any baking, because baking (cookies, cakes, etc.) needs to be very precise or it won't turn out right.

I'm not sure what else to say...anything involving pasta would probably be easy, like macaroni and cheese, or you can make a tomato cream sauce or something. It's very easy, and of course pasta itself is easy to make.

My favourite is Shnmep and riceables. It's very good for if you're running out of food and need something to keep you going for a while. [Warning, you probably need a large non-stick pan or wok]

Basically, you take most of what's in your cupboards and frige, sling it all in a pan and let it heat up. Then you put rice on following the instructions on the packet and put in any veggies you have that need to be boiled, like carrots.

Personally, I put in coarned beef, tomatoe soup, chopped tomotoes, hot dogs, cheese, ham, pak choi, mushrooms, spam and leaks.

You can season it with whatever you want as well, I tend to use a lot of worcestershire sauce and herbs.

Try to think of combinations of simple foods, such as a classic frozen chicken breasts (just microwave), instant mashed potatoes (very easy to make) and a frozen vegetable. On dish I've always liked is "souper rice." It's a terrible pun, but a good dish. Simply prepare a can of Campbell's soup (with milk, not water) (chicken soup is good for this, as is mushroom), and instead of bringing it to slightly hot, let it begin to boil. Once the soup is boiling, add a soup can-full of white Minute Rice. Stir it up, take it off heat, cover, and let sit for about 20 minutes. If you make that dish first, wait a bit, and then make frozen chicken or another easy main dish, you have a good meal.
