It has recently come to my attention, that my cousin has been taking 5-10 tylenol a day. He has started acting really weird, and complains of his foot being numb. Is it possible that by taking 5-10 tylenol, he could be overdosing? If he is, what should i do?
Shortcake22 answered Tuesday June 27 2006, 3:41 am: Has this been going on for awhile? Because if it has, then that is definitly not good. But I know I get bad migranes, and when I do, I require a higher dosage of medicine, and take 4-8 pills just for it to go away, sometimes it happens a couple days in a row. But if this has been going on for longer than 5 days, that is serious. You need to have a talk with him, find out more information. If it looks like bad news, talk to someone else about it. Someone like your parents or his, or whoever you think could step in and help. ASAP! [ Shortcake22's advice column | Ask Shortcake22 A Question ]

If he's not taking the tyleonal for any specific pain that he's having it's not healthy for him to be taking it at all even though it is an over the counter drug. You should tell an adult about what your cousin is doing even if you think it seems like you're being a tattletail. Overdosing on pills is dangerous and the behavior should stop immedately. helpmebrenda answered Monday June 26 2006, 10:51 pm: Hi
I think you need to find out why he is taking that many tylenol daily. Is he in physical pain, and needs them for relief, or is he mentally addicted to taking them?
I went through a time in my life where I was addicted to pain killers. At first I was taking them to help with chronic pain, but after a while, I was taking 20-30 a day because of the mental addiction. Thankfully I was able to get back to just taking them when I physically need them.
On the tylenol bottle, it says you are not to exceed 8 pills a day, and not for more than 5 days in a row.
Taking as many as he is daily can lead to irritation of the stomach lining, and if taken in excess for a long period of time, they can damage your liver.
I would suggest that you sit down and have a talk with him...find out what's going on in his life. Hopefully he will appreciate your concern. If he gets mad at you for interfering with his life, then you may need to involve an adult.
PunkieFreak4690 answered Monday June 26 2006, 10:50 pm: Regular dosage for tylenol is 1-2 pills every 4-6 hours, unless more is needed with permission by a Doctor. If he has no permission from a Doctor and is taking that many, tell him to stop immediately. Overdosing can cause short-term or long-term symptoms. Like for short-term you can have temporary numbness and some dependency (can be long-term) and for long term liver damage and breathing problems. And overdosing for long periods of time can build a higher tolerance from the tylenol.
What you should do is immediately tell him to stop, give him many glasses of water, get him something to eat to decrease effects, and contact the Poison Control Center. This can get really serious if left tolerated! [ PunkieFreak4690's advice column | Ask PunkieFreak4690 A Question ]
xomegaroni answered Monday June 26 2006, 10:25 pm: yes! you aren't suppose to take that many at all you can have 2 for 4 hours & then after those 4 hours you can have another 2, but that's definately not every day. plus, taking 8 pills is overdosing. you should tell someone. even if he told you not to, because you're helping him. he can get really sick from it. definately tell someone. family? friends? etc etc. you should probably tell like tomorrow er something because it's not healthy for anyone to take that.
