What's wrong with black?

Question Posted Wednesday June 21 2006, 10:05 am

I wear a lot of black clothing. In fact, I'm almost always in black. I'm not attempting to be goth or anything; I simply like the colour in clothes and I feel it suits me. Occasionally I'll wear colours but for the most part I wear black. Ever since this though, I've copped a lot of critisism from people. So many people have asked me why I wear so much black. A couple of guys have said they'd like me better if I didn't wear so much black. One "friend" of mine even went so far to tell me I don't look good in it and to stop wearing it!

I just can't understand it. Why is it such a big deal? I'm a happy person, and am not goth at all. I just like black clothes. What should I do?

It's none of their business! They're just trying to get under your skin, anyway. Next time somebody says they'd like you better if you didn't wear black, look them in the eye and tell them that they need to get their priorities in order. It's a big deal because it's different, and people are notorious for hating differences. Also, they go with the stereotype that goths are always depressed, suicidal attention seekers (fyi, they're NOT. Most of my friends are goth, and that's not what it's about at all.) and, for whatever reason, want to make fun of that. Maybe you could wear brightly colored accessories with your black clothing. Personally, I think it looks better that way anyway. But don't listen to people who don't know you. Just be yourself.

I totally understand what your saying i'm the same way I just like black... I’m not gothic...I’m not emo...I just like to wear it, and I own a lot of it...and I hate how people ask ‘why do you wear so much black?’ So sometimes when people ask me I just say..." I wear it just so you’d ask why" no one really expects that so they just stop asking…but I wouldn’t care what people think and wear what you want/whatever you feel comfortable in.
-hope i helped-

you shouldnt do much of anything. by people telling you what to wear- they are tryin to change you and conform you to what they think is right. personally- people have called me a prep because of the way i dress and the way i get my hair done- but i wouldnt take any of it to heart. dont change for anyone- and if they dont like it- too bad- theyre not the ones being themselves. good luck, hon.

Well kids these days only look for the people that suite their needs. like some people in my school are so selfish that they only hang out with the "popular" people who wear hollister, abercrombie, american eagle ect. i wear all that stuff, but im not where near judgemental towards anyone. you should maybe try to wear like pink with black. or light blue with black. or organge with black. try to mix up some colors with black. so you still feel comfortable in what you are wearing. i like black too. and it makes me feel good wearing it--like you said. and about those people that critizise you, who cares what they think. you are, who you want to be and no one can change that.
well, goos luck

Don't change for anyone but yourself. If you like it just tell them to back off.

Tan answered Wednesday June 21 2006, 1:26 pm:
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. If your happy, wear what ever you like. Friends will be there for you no matter what and not stop liking you because of what colour you wear. If you feel comfortable more in that colour then wear it. You're not making a statement, then who cares if people dont approve. If its making you feel bad, and you want to experiment with other colours do. But it should only be for you - noone else. Best of luck xxx

First of all, the people that tell you this crap are nothing but jerks. I wear black all the time and people give me crap to. I just ignore them. There not worth it hon. If they keep it up it up though, I would just give insult them right back. Them them something like, I can wear different clothes but you'll still be ugly. It's no one's busniess what you wear. Maybe tell them that too. And as for your friend, she could have just been joking around if it was only a one time thing, but if she does it all the time, about time you get new friends. There are always going to be people who criticize you. Everybody goes through it. Just know that those people will get there carma soon enough. Also realize that they are lowlives and jerks. They have no life if they have to criticize you when they don't even know you.

Razhie answered Wednesday June 21 2006, 1:22 pm:
You should stop worrying so much about what people say to you about your clothing.

Honestly, why is this bothering you? Do you really want a boy to like you because you wear pink? Does it really matter if your friends think you'd look better in violet? Maybe you would look best in orange! But if you don't want to wear it it doesn't matter what you look 'best' in.

You should stop wasting your mental energy on this. Next time someone shares their feelings on your clothing, don't get defensive, just tell them you don't much care what they think.

To kids these days if you wear black all the time your goth, like if you wore hollister, ae, abercrobie your a prep. But black makes people more unaprochable, would you rather talk to a person in alll black or someone who has on bright pretty colors. And also pretty colors is more appealing to the eye. They are probably making a big deal about it because since you are a happy person wear black is just unusually because normally happy people wear colors. But to fix your problem buy black shirts with color on the front, not just solid black. Or everyone once in a while wear a black shorts and a bright shirt. Also try wearing some make up to to make your face brighter. Just try to be look more colorfull. Hope I Helped!!!! ♥
