I graduated high school back in May and all throughout high school, I never really liked cared for or paid attention in any classes like algebra, physics, pre cal, etc. I'm a pretty smart girl, I just didn't care. I convinced my parents to let me take a semester off before going to college because I really don't want to do. I don't think its right for me. I know I will most likely flunk out because I really don't care about any of those classes that are required.
What I do know is designer, fashion, and clothes. And I know it good. Gucci, Burberry, Fendi, Dior, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Prada, you name it. Well, I got a job offer at Chanel in the Galleria, here and this is my DREAM job. This is something I want to do and something I'd care about. I'd just be the "welcome girl" (welcome people into the store, show them around, make suggestions, etc.) but it's a place I can work my way up from. The lady that wants to give me the job started the same way and now she makes 95,000 working for Chanel!! And she didn't go to college either. All she did was take training courses and such, offered by the company.
So here comes the problem, my parents. They told me I could take the job if I wanted but I'd still have to quit and go to college come January. I've talked to them about it so many times that I'm just sick of it. I don't know why they think that just because I turned 18 and graduated high school, that I'm going to start caring about school, because I'm NOT! It just isn't for me, but Chanel is. They’d be wasting their money. What do I do here?
Additional info, added Wednesday June 21 2006, 1:05 am: Of COURSE I'm going to take the job. But my parents are going to make me quit in Jan. to go to college. That's my problem. You could work at channel during the day and take some sort of college class at night... not just to please your parents, but to enrich yourself. what if something goes wrong with channel or they don't advance you for another 15 years? would you still like it there? a high school degree with get you some jobs but if you go to college, you have more selection and better pay. Don't quit the job tho... find a way to work a scedule around it. i know school seems like the least important thing right now, but later on you might regret not going while you still had the chance. just think about it & try both. <3 [ LoveNJstyle's advice column | Ask LoveNJstyle A Question ]
orphans answered Wednesday June 21 2006, 1:51 am: i think you just gotta do what your heart tells ya to do. besides you can always go back to school later in life if you want to. and you're 18 now right? so legally you dont 'have' to do what they say. what i myself would do, (assuming you still live at home) is get an apartment. it sounds like a job where you'd make decent money enough to pay for one. anyway it's late and i'm goin to bed.
good luck. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]

If you really want this job and plan to continue in this field you have to take risks: be willing to move out, live on ur own, put a bit of a strain on your relationship with your parents.
On the other hand, you try an easier route. Take two or three classes each semester at night, and work for Chanel during the day. It would be a very trying experience, but it would allow you to make your mother happy as well as allowing you to continue on in your field of choice.
GraceFullFall answered Wednesday June 21 2006, 12:29 am: I would take the job.
i would concider going to collage because if you dont go to collage then you could be stuck at a fastfood place such as mcdonalds.jackinthebox.wendys.burgerking.ect..
