Messed up weight?

Question Posted Friday June 9 2006, 5:07 pm

I'm not worried about my weight but I'm just curious... I've been keeping track of my weight daily, and sometimes the scale gives back some weird numbers. Like, I've heard that it's unhealthy to lose more than 1 or 2 pounds a week, but I'll go to bed one night and wake up 4 pounds lighter. It's so strange. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Or is my scale messed up? Or am I just weird? Thanks ahead!

yeah your scale could be a little messed up, but you DO lose weight at night.. think about it. you dont eat for like 8 hourse so when you wake up, your empty - dont worry its normal.. you gain it back during the day. its a never-ending process

I heard from a doctor that you are lighter in the morning than when you are at night.
If you want a good idea of how much you weigh, get up, go to the bathroom, then step on the scale. You aren't weird and your scale isn't screwed up.

It isn't weird considering that you are weighing yourself at night and then in the morning. You always weigh less in the morning. This happens to me too so you are deff. not unnormal. Don't worry about it, it isn't unhealthy. Hope I helped! <3 Morgan

If you are weighing yourself at night, and you've just eaten dinner, your stomach is still full and has not fully digested your food yet. When you wake up in the morning, you've fully digested your food and you tend to weigh less.

Try this, before you go to bed, push out your stomach to make it look like you are pregnant, or at least attempt to. See how far it goes out. When you wake up in the morning, do it again and I will tell you, it won't go out even the slightest bit.

You're not weird, it's normal. And I doubt it's unhealthy to lose more than 1 to 2 pounds a week. People can drop 5 pounds in 3 days. Maybe even less. Just by using the toilet or not eating you can lose like 3 pounds.

You're scale is not messed up, nor are you weird. It's nothing to worry about.

It's normal. Your weight varies through out the day. 4 pounds isn't too much.

If you want to keep track of your weight, you should consider the validity of the measurement that you take.

This means that if you want to weight yourself, the best time to do so is when you get up in the morning. After you go to the toilet if you need to, but before you eat or drink anything. This reduces the fluctuation due to the amount of food and water you have in you, because you wouldn't have eaten anything for the whole time that you've been sleeping.

Also, weigh yourself in the bathroom so you can remove your clothes.

Generally, you lose a lot of weight during the night. Because if you think about it, that is 8 to 10 hours of no food in your body. If you don't eat breakfast, that's up to 18 hours without food. Your body takes food and changes it into energy, and thus takes the most food from you at night. With more taken and less eaten, you lose a few pounds at night. So, it is normal.
If you want to track your weight, I'd advise looking at it at the same time every morning.

Its not your clothes and its not your scale...it's you. This happens to everyone because during the night we metabolize energy from the foods we ate in the day and our pores open and we lose water weight thats all it is- water weight.

It could be your scale, but it could also be you. Some days you could be bloated, and the next day not be. If you're keeping the weight off its one thing, but if its just bouncing back its just your body. (maybe retaining water, salt, ect.) Hope this helps.

I wouldn't rely on a scale (especially if it's a digital one). You shouldn't be weighing yourself daily anyway. If your clothes are loose on you, then that means you are losing weight. Also, maybe you weigh less in the morning because all the food has digested and whatnot.
