itll be fine, if you just watch how long your out there for. tanning beds are way different than the sun. not only doesnt a real sun tan last longer, but it takes twice as long to get. when you could lay in a tanning bed for say 15 minutes. it would take an hour to burn in the sun. also, watch the news before you go out because they tell you what the uv factor is for that day to help you regulate your time in the sun..the higher the uv the faster you burn. ive had some sunburns in my life i wanted to die because of, with blisters on my back for days. just be careful not to fall asleep, and even using a tanning lotion would help, because theyre are made for tanning specifically and help to block out harmful uv rays. the lighter skin you have, the less time you need to be out there for and when you get your skin wet (say, in a pool) the water on your skin just magnifies the sun rays, so getting yourself wet, though its cooling you off, will help you to burn twice as fast also. not to mention if its hot and you start to sweat..its still magnifying. just be smart about it, and even though i do it, remember it really could cause cancer down the line. just take care of your skin, maybe only lay out with her for 20 minutes (if you have lighter skin) then if you dont have ANY color the next day yall lay out go for 30 minutes you know? just dont jump right into like a hour, and keep your body hidrated with water, your body is mostly water and when your in the sun..its drying you out so you need to keep your skin moisturized also in the sense that after you come inside and shower or whatever you do. put lotion on, just in case you do get burnt, you wont always be able to tell until later in the day. anyway, happy tanning :)

how would that be dangerous if youre regularly tanning in a tanning bed. a tanning bed is more dangerous than laying out in the sun. they contain direct rays that are much more powerful than the sun.

My brilliant answer:
Don't let her. I mean unless you want to give her skin cancer. You probably haven't heard all the news about how since we are destroying the ozone, more of the sun's UV rays can get in, giving those who do not take extra special care of themselves skin cancer. Don't let her.

It depends on like if you do it all the time or not. Make sure you put suntan lotion on before you do anything like this. Sun can actually be very good for your skin. But too much over exposure to anything can be bad for you. It sounds like you and your sister are very close. Just make sure if you do this with your sister, don't do it a really long time. Although, if your mom said no, I wouldn't do it. Try to find something else fun to do with your sister like, swimming, baseball, or even just chaing each other around and talking.

i don't see a big problem with laying out in the sun... if you do it in moderation. laying out in the sun won't expose you to more sun that if you were just outside playing or doing other things. although if she starts laying out in the sun now and continues doing it, she'll have been exposed to sun for a long time and that ups the risks for skin cancer. i wouldn't recommend her(or you) laying out in the sun for more than 20 minutes per day. that way you'll get a little bit of sun but you won't be exposed to UV rays for a long amount of time. just wear alot of sunscreen :o)

I don't think it's a good idea. Tanning is inherantly unhealthy and there is a reason why there are age restrictions on tanning salons, beds, and the like. Maybe your mother also knows something you don't about the sensitivity of your sisters skin or the harshness of that particualr bed.

I've been tanning for a while now and have never heard of or encounterd that whole getting scrapes on your chest thing? I tan, and also lay out and go to the beach and lay out. Once you have a base tan from a tanning salon, you laying out in the sun will only help you get darker..Of course you already know the side effects from tanning beds-pretty much the same as the uv rays from the sun, but besides that, your only "helping" your tan.
