Broken condoms and so on.

Question Posted Monday May 29 2006, 1:56 am

So, last night (Around 1:30 in the morning?) my boyfriend and I had sex and whatnot. We used a condom and all, but it ripped. I don't know if he realized it at first, so I don't know if he got his sperm inside of me or not, but I'm reallllly paranoid. We've had sex a few times before without a condom but he swears he pulled out before anything happened. I have no idea what to do, I'm really scared. Should I go get an ECP? I'm not sure when I was supposed to get my period but I was expecting it sometime this weekend/week. Any advice you can give me us greatly appreciated.. Please help? :/..

I would. Just to be sure. And it wouldn't hurt to ALWAYS use protection. Some of my friends have had sex and they always say the guy pulls out but you dont know for sure. I would talk to a parent or trusted adult first. They will be able to help you.

definetely wait it out a day or two. couldnt tell you how many times ive had the same scare youre going through. if you havent gotten your period- then id say get a pregnancy test. but if you were supposed to get yuor period this weekend- even if he did go- it wouldnt matter cuz the only time youd be able to get pregnant is about 1 or 2 weeks before your period- es, it MIGHT still be possible- but its unlikely. hope i helped. and calm down- either way everythnig will be aight.

Get an ECP. It is much much better to be safe than to find out that you are pregnant a few weeks later. Also, if a local drug store has a "Morning after" pill, use that. Get a pregnancy test, and check. If it comes out positive 2 out of 3 times (You should do it at least 3 times), then you should see a doctor. Then if you are pro-choice, get an abortion. A child is something you do not want on your life.

If you have somewhere like Planned Parenthood around you, they should have some sort of medication you can take. Some drugstores sell the "morning-after pill"...if you absolutely have to, see your doctor. Either way, do something right away.

Hi There,

When condoms are produced, great care is taken to ensure
that they are of a high quality and not defective -
especially by well known brands.

If you are worried about a condom breaking, using it
properly is far more effective than any checks you
could carry out beforehand.

By this, I mean that you should make sure that the
condom has not expired before using it;

that the condom has a reservoir at the end (a thin, rounded
tip to catch semen) to reduce the risk of them breaking
when the male ejaculates;

ensure that after ejaculation, the penis is withdrawn
promptly and the condom disposed of, otherwise after the
male loses his erection, the ejaculate could spill over;

and that you use only water based lubricants. Stay away
from lotions (hand, face, suntan etc..), vaseline, cooking
oil or any other oil based lubricants as they will begin
deteriorating the condom within 30 seconds.

Lastly, high temperatures can also damage the condom, so
it is good practice to keep them out of sunlight and
not to store them in locations such as a glove compartment.

I hope this helps you, and wish you all the best.

Takcare

Firstly, if the condom ripped while you were having sex and you aren't on the Pill, yes you could be pregnant and yes you should get the ECP. A major problem with condoms is the fact they can rip, which is why you should never rely on them as your only form of contraceptive. The best thing you can do is see your doctor and ask to be put on the Pill. As most pills are 99.9% effective as a form of contraceptive when taken correctly, used with condoms, you're as protected as you can be. It is what the Dutch call going 'Double Dutch'.

The other thing that you need to understand is that men produce sperm constantly and it can 'escape', so to speak, any time they are aroused. This means that whether he actually climaxes inside you or not, you can still get pregnant.

For future reference, if you're going to have sex, ALWAYS use a condom, make sure you are on the Pill if possible and remember that sex always carried the possibility of resulting in pregnancy, whether you use contraception or not.

Like the answer below said, get yourself tested. All I wanted to add was regarding the unprotected sex. Be careful with that since there is no way he could have known that he pulled out "before anything happened". Precum, which is secreted at all stages of sex and arousal, is perfectly capable of making you pregnant. It really does not have to be from the orgasm as such.

There really isnt anything more to say other than that you should check and play it safe.

I would get the ECP just to be safe and also a pregnancy test afterwards if you do not get your period by next weekend. And I would keep track of your period in the future so you know when to expect it and can avoid unnessecary worry.

Good luck, hope I helped!!
