Broken Phone

Question Posted Saturday May 27 2006, 4:37 pm

I spilled soda on my phone yesterday and it broke and now I'm afraid to tell my parents. It was an accident, the soda leaked in my purse, it wasnt out of carelessness or anything, but I dont know how to approach telling my parents!!

yuo gotta tell them. theyre gonna find out anyways- you might as well let them know rite away instead of worry ing yourself over it for a long time.

You should just be honest with them about the phone. They'll be less upset with you since you came and told them right away than if you wait awhile and THEN tell them. Since it wasn't anything that you did on purpose they might not even make a huge deal about it.

tell them your really sorry and you will pay the cost of the damage

something i heard was that you could blow dry your phone without the sim card and stuff and it may work. but im not sure.. you can try though since it may be worth a chance. good luck!

The best thing you can do is to tell them about it SOON!! Explain that you are very sorry but that it happened and you will either buy them a new phone or pay them back the cost of a new phone. Tell them (most importantly) that you are very sorry you didn't tell them soon but you were scared and although it's no excuse, you just panicked and couldn't tell them.

The fact that you are apologising for not telling them sooner means they will understand you knew you made a mistake here and that is one less thing for them to have to deal with. Offering to pay the cost of a new phone shows a great deal of maturity and responsibility and telling them what happened rather than lying shows courage.

You may still get in trouble but this is very much damage limitation now. Whatever you do, just don't shout back at them if they get mad. It will be a bit of a shock and they are entitled to be upset so if they shout, stay quiet and just tell them you are sorry.

aaww, well if it was an accident then i'm sure they will understand and won't freak out about it. just go up to them and explain what happened... tell them the soda got knocked over and spilled all over your purse, and now your phone won't turn on. they might get frustrated about it, but they will realize that it was an accident, and let's face it, they are old enough to know that accidents happen. offer to pay for the new phone, or if you don't have a job or money, offer to do chores or something to make it up to them for getting you a new phone. if you are nice and calm about it and let them know that you are willing to do something in return for their favor, they should be more understanding!

lastly, when you go to the phone store, ask if they can put a new battery on the phone to see if it works. pretty much the entire back of the phone that comes off is the batery, and when i dropped my cell in the toilet (lovely i know), i went to the store, they tried a new battery on and it worked! plus they were nice and gave me the battery for free! if that doesn't work then you will have to get a new phone... and if your parents don't want to spend a lot of money, you might have to settle for the cheapest cell phone in the store! good luck, let me know if you need more help! :)

just tell them the story, and if you really want a new phone, offer to help pay for it.

they should understand that you didn't do it purposely, but there's a pretty good chance that they'll be upset with you.

i think that if you're honest and upfront about it, and possibly offer to help pay for it, they might go easier on you and it will take some weight off your shoulders.

good luck & hope i helped!
