I was just kind of curious. One of my friends told me that her mom said we should put ICE next to any numbers in my phone that I would want someone to call if anything happened to me. ICE standing for In Case of Emergancy. Well my question is, do cops, firefighters, and paramedics know about that? Like will they actually look through your phone for the ICE numbers, or is that just something that her mom wanted us to do? Have any of you ever heard of doing that? Because I have ICE next to my parents, siblings, and a few of my closest friends. I also always have ID on me, not that that really matters.
But I was really just wondering, do other people do the "ICE" thing, or is it just a waste of time?
Additional info, added Saturday May 27 2006, 5:26 pm: I'm pretty much just asking:
Have you heard of ICE
And would paramedics search the phone to find those ICE numbers
I have the numbers where you could reach my parents more quickly as ICE such as their cell numbers. It's hard to reach them at work, so that's why their work numbers just say Mom/Dad and their cell's say ICE Mom/ICE dad.

In the event of an accident, paramedics always look to your wallet for an ID, it's much faster than learning how to use your cell phone. [ spacefem's advice column | Ask spacefem A Question ]

It's also not a waste of time, after all its just typing 3 letters next to someone's name. What could it hurt? Hope this helps.

DancinCutie08 answered Saturday May 27 2006, 3:04 pm: that would be a smart thing to do.. in most cases they will prob look at your phone provided they know how to work it! you best bet is to maybe put a sticker on the back with a number incase of an emergency. also get photo id. its like 10 bucks and its well worth it. i have a state on and its basically like a drivers liciences but you cant drive with it. It has all your infoon it and it is very handy [ DancinCutie08's advice column | Ask DancinCutie08 A Question ]
LM answered Saturday May 27 2006, 2:57 pm: well, I know a lot of paramedics, espeically those in England (where, i am 99.9% sure the ICE thing started) and other places in Europe.
I'm not sure it's 100% necessary though, although it sure can't hurt. But usually when (IF) they find you unconscious and find a cellphone with you, they look through your contacts for MOM, DAD, GRANDMA, etc.
I programmed ICE numbers into my cellphone, because you've got nothing to lose, and it's another safety measure you can take to have peace of mind. =]
