I.C.E numbers I was just kind of curious. One of my friends told me that her mom said we should put ICE next to any numbers in my phone that I would want someone to call if anything happened to me. ICE standing for In Case of Emergancy. Well my question is, do cops, firefighters, and paramedics know about that? Like will they actually look through your phone for the ICE numbers, or is that just something that her mom wanted us to do? Have any of you ever heard of doing that? Because I have ICE next to my parents, siblings, and a few of my closest friends. I also always have ID on me, not that that really matters.
But I was really just wondering, do other people do the "ICE" thing, or is it just a waste of time?
Thanks in advance.

ICE is a very good idea and it is being used by the emergency services now. It saves time when information is needed fast and a patients family/friends have to be contacted. Anything that cuts down on wasting time can be invaluable and I urge everyone to use this very simple system. ]
The ICE thing is gaining popularity and a lot of paramedics look for it, so it's not a bad idea to have it in your phone (not like it costs you anything, right?) but make sure you take other steps as well... make sure close friends have your mom's cell phone number, make sure there's a note in your purse or wallet that lists emergency contact information. In the event of an accident, paramedics always look to your wallet for an ID, it's much faster than learning how to use your cell phone. ]
yeah it is a actual thing. i once seen it on the news ]
My friend's dad is actually an EMT (one of the guys in the ambulance). He said that they hardly ever look for ICE numbers. ]
That's a smart thing to do. I know a few people who do put ICE next to their parents and relatives. It's always good to have, just in case. It's also not a waste of time, after all its just typing 3 letters next to someone's name. What could it hurt? Hope this helps.

that would be a smart thing to do.. in most cases they will prob look at your phone provided they know how to work it! you best bet is to maybe put a sticker on the back with a number incase of an emergency. also get photo id. its like 10 bucks and its well worth it. i have a state on and its basically like a drivers liciences but you cant drive with it. It has all your infoon it and it is very handy ]
well, I know a lot of paramedics, espeically those in England (where, i am 99.9% sure the ICE thing started) and other places in Europe.
I'm not sure it's 100% necessary though, although it sure can't hurt. But usually when (IF) they find you unconscious and find a cellphone with you, they look through your contacts for MOM, DAD, GRANDMA, etc.
I programmed ICE numbers into my cellphone, because you've got nothing to lose, and it's another safety measure you can take to have peace of mind. =]
