Computer chairs

Question Posted Tuesday May 23 2006, 9:09 am

The chair I use at my computer is actually a large recliner. It sits pretty low compared to where my monitor is. After long bouts of using the computer (and since I play WoW, that happens a lot), my neck tends to hurt. I know this is due to my chair. Do I need a harder, taller chair that forces me to sit up? I've moved this chair and sat in it every which way, but to no avail. Any recommendations for a good, not-make-my-neck-hurt chair?

It might be the chair but from experience it's how much time ur on the comp. I used to be on the comp from like 3-10 pm so it's being there too much.

yes, your neck hurting is most likely due to the chair you are using. By using a low chair, you are forcing yourself to have to raise your head up higher than you normally would with a computer chair. Try getting a chair that is leveled with your monitor or at least high enough so your head and rest straight ahead. And as with anyone, when you are at the computer for a long time, your neck normally begins to hurt because you are in the same position for a long period of time.

Well, good luck and i hope you have better luck in the future with this.

take care,
ash

I used to do that to, with my laptop. The hardness of the chair isn't going to affect your neck (although a softer chair is just nicer), you really just need to focus on the height.

The general rule is for monitor placement is that it shouldn't be too high or too low above your head. The best placement is to have it slightly lower than your head, so consider than when you're buying a new chair.

Well since your playing WOW, your probably on the computer a lot. (I know a lot of WOW addicts). You actually need a chair that is tall to where you can reach everything, and has support for your back. You should feel the cushioney (Not a word) stuff when you lean against it.

You have to make sure your back is on the back of the chair or your neck will hurt. And you have to make sure to sit straight up and dont slouch. This way, hours of WOW wont have an affect on your body!

As for what kind of chair to get, just go anywhere...Target, WalMart...and try out some of the chairs and if its soft...buy it. Any chair beats the recliner, right? It shouldent be even that expensive.

Good luck.
