If he has decent grades and isn't getting into trouble can yuo ask fro anything more than that.

Try to stay as involved as you can without being forceful. That will just make him angry, be kind and understanding, and try to keep him happy at home.

Also, the artistic kids always end up more educated and sophisticated later in life.

Hey. Personally I'm not a fan of labels but I'll go along for this one... I don't think you have to worry about your son being emo. Emo is emotional and being teenagers we have all these homrmones and live in our own little world... only some people show their 'emotionlness' more than others and they end up being 'emo'. But it's still nothing to worry about because my 'emo' friends just have their mood swings and things but I think it's just a 'colorful' way of expressing yourself. You should worry if your son is gothic and wearing all black and has morbid thoughts and is always depressed... emo people just have their mood swings and stuff but it's more petty and it's definitely as phase. It's nothing 'dark' or anything.

In my opinion emo is a fad and sterotype these days. Kids just being sad for no reasons, and making big issues out of nothing.

Just because the teen quit a team, doesnt mean he's 'emo' it is probably because he doesnt like the coach.

If he's "different" thats normal, no one wants to be the same as everyone else.

Emo is a fad in itself, everyones trying to be different, but we werent the same to begin with, so its all so silly.

Emo is a term describing music.

It's just a phase. I'm going through it now. I dont think he should be classified under emo, since emo is a cutting-my-wrists and hating-my-life type of thing. He's a teenager, he's going to change and like different things. I would leave it alone for now, it's a teenager thing but watch for that depression/emotional stage and make sure he doesn't do anything to hurt himself. And also since he's a freshmen in high school, things are a lot different so he is definatley changing!

Just from the information that you provided, I do not see anything that should be troubling. It is important to maintain a good line of communication with your child, so making an issue of relatively innocuous things may cause more long term problems, due to a breakdown in trust.

Having said this, some of the warning signs of serious problems can be a radical change in behavior, attitudes and interests. Teenagers are well known for being fickle and rebellious. It is up to the parent to know their child well enough to be able to distinguish between the two, or recognize when professional assistance may be in order. As long as the child is not exhibiting behavior that is likely to cause himself or another person injury, I would advise letting the subject explore who he is, and how they want to interact with the world around them.

Give the child a loving, safe and open relationship with his caregivers and most of the small issues will work themselves out in a healthy way.

your teen is perfectly normal. i know you're concerned about not knowing him as well and him quitting swim team, but to be honest, that is perfectly normal. i quit softball years ago and i'm not emo. my parents and i argue sometimes, and sometimes they don't understand me, but that's also normal. artistic is not always bad. in short, you really don't need to be worrying about your son being emo. you need to start worrying if he starts doing drugs, slitting his wrists, getting into trouble at school, drinking, etc. by the looks of it, he knows better than to do that.

just because he doesn't like his coach doesn't make him emo lol .. just let him be himself! what's wrong with being emo? as long as he doesn't cut himself, being 'emo' is harmless. 'emo' boys tend to wear girl pants, they have hair past their eyes; usually a dark color, and they sometimes wear makeup such as eyeliner .. maybe even more. but there is nothing wrong with being emo .. you make it sound like a bad thing lol .. alot of parents lose connection with their child as they grow older, that's normal. being artistic is a good thing .. he may be considered emo, but that's not a bad thing.. as long as he doesn't slit his wrists then it's bad [obviously] hope i helped ♥
