Vikki27 answered Sunday April 30 2006, 3:20 am: Tricky one. Technically speaking, it takes more than a day. If you are ill for example and don't feel up to eating for a few days you can lose weight but I doubt one day would make a difference.
To this I would like to add that really it's academic because this is NOT a safe way to lose weight. I know saying you're not going anorexic but deliberately not eating for one day is just how anorexia starts and I really don't want to see another girl lose herself to such a horrible illness.
If you want to lose weight the safest way possible, try to eat a balanced healthy diet and do moderate exercise two to three times a week. You can treat yourself to some chocolate when you are doing well, so don't deprive yourself because that can have a negative effect. Also, try eating wholegrain foods, which are more filling and eat as much fruit and veg as possible (I recall that broccoli is a good one to help you lose weight and that eating celery burns more calories than it actually contains - even if it does taste disgusting!).
Most importantly, try to find out what your average weight for your height should be and don't stray beyond this. I have been in hospital and forcefed before through losing too much weight and TRUST ME you do NOT want to go through it so know when to stop. [ Vikki27's advice column | Ask Vikki27 A Question ]
tasuki answered Saturday April 29 2006, 3:59 am: Well, yes, you can lose weight, but it's incredibly risky. Even just one day can do harm to your body. Your body will need to burn something, and without food, it will burn fat. But when it's out of fat, it's going to start on the muscle. You say you're not anorexic, but you never know what could happen--this kind of thing is addicting.
For your second question, it's not that you need to eat foods that will slim you down, it's that you need to stop eating foods that make you fat. I know that a lot of people say that low carb diets are bad for you, but those people don't know what they're talking about. Trust me on this one, I know from experience. I not only lost weight on a low carb diet, but my cholesterol dropped and I was generally healthier. No bread, no sugar, no chips, nothing like that. Always check the Nutrition facts. If the carbs are in the single digits, it's okay. Don't give up snacking entirely. A popsicle with three carbs is not the healthiest thing in the world, but it's healthier than a dozen doughnuts. Check the facts on fruits and vegetables, too. Some have more carbs than others. The thing with carbs, if you don't know, is that they burn before fat. So if you're eating a lot of carbohydrates and exercising, you're not burning the fat--you're just burning what you just ate. Plus, they make you crave more carbohydrates, so you'll want to keep eating.
The hardest thing with this kind of diet is temptation. You're probably going to be with thin people who are eating cake, and they're going to say "You're not that fat!" or "What's one slice?" Well, believe me, one slice is a lot! You WILL gain weight from it, and it will take a lot less time than it did to lose it. If the stress gets to be too much for you, you may want to try Weight Watchers. It lets you eat whatever you want in moderation, so there's a lot less pressure. Everybody I know who has been on this diet loves it a lot.
And remember, it's not all eating. You have to exercise too. And drink a LOT of water. That stuff will save your life. Really. [ tasuki's advice column | Ask tasuki A Question ]

greeneyedgirl9o answered Friday April 28 2006, 10:58 pm: Not eating isnt a way to loose weight, you may loose like 2 pounds, but it wont work really, the moment you drink or eat something it'll go back! The quickest way to slim down is slimply to exercise before any food is in your system in the morning, yes that means waking up semi-early and exercising, try jogging or power-walking or even yoga, anything arobic. This is to burn the fat that is causing you to hold that weight, if you wait till after you eat, you will just be burning off the calories from that last meal, not the real fat! Try just eating healthy, fruits, veggies, etc. And dont forget carbs ARE necessary!!! good luck! [ greeneyedgirl9o's advice column | Ask greeneyedgirl9o A Question ]

Eating less calories than your body is used to will evenatually make you gain weight and lower your metabolism. (unless you can stick to the reduced calorie "diet" for the rest of your life, and for your particular question you obviously have to eat eventually.)
So how do you lose weight eating normally? Build muscle. Most people only do aerobic/cardiovascular type exercises, that increase your heart rate and such. While those exercises are good too, they aren't for building muscle specifically. You should lift weights. Weight train. You're not going to suddenly get bulky like muscle builders, but muscle burns fat. The more muscle you have, the more fat you burn. Even when sitting or sleeping. You start losing weight naturally, even if you are eating the same.
100 years ago and longer, there weren't as many fat people as there are today. And yet everybody ate butter, not margarine. Everybody drank whole milk (with the cream too!) not skim milk. Shortening was Lard! One of the biggest flavor additives to dishes was animal fat! There were no artificial sweeteners. So why are people so much fatter today? (well, besides the fact that we eat so many unnatural, man-made foods) Because people back then had to be very physically active and had muscles! Even the women had to be strong and have muscles, just imagine washing every item of clothing on a wash board. If you are physically active and have nice healthy muscle tone, what you eat shouldn't matter nearly as much.
Now on the other hand, if you try to eat less than your body is used to, (by dieting or starving yourself) your body will think that it's in a famine period, and will panic. If your body thinks it's starving, it tries to make sure to save your life, by lowering your metabolism (so you don't burn as many calories) and by storing away even more fat when you start eating more normally because it's afraid there will be another famine and it doesn't want to die. Remember, in all the thousands of years of human history, people usually had to struggle for food. Your body is made to deal with famines and keep you alive. That's why it's so common to gain even more weight than before when going off of a diet. And if you do it again and again, you get heavier and heavier every time you try to consume less calories.
So bottom line, exercise and weight train. Don't rely on the scales to tell you how you are doing because muscle weighs more than fat! Rely on how your clothes fit, or use a measuring tape to keep track of your body shape.
Also, eating more often will help to raise your metabolism. Like, the same amount of food per day that you normally would, but spread it out into 6 smaller meals instead of 3 larger ones.
One more tip, don't drink diet sodas or anything with artificial sweeteners in it (NutraSweet, aspartame, equal). That includes sugar free yogurt, ice cream, chewing gum, etc. It actually increases your appetite, and one of the known side effects of that sweetener (which the FDA fully admits to) is "Weight Gain"! Weight loss isn't even listed as a side effect of NutraSweet. Ironic, isn't it? It's also horribly bad for you, and it nearly killed me when I was around 20. twistedsister17 answered Friday April 28 2006, 9:56 pm: No, by not eating for one day will not lose you any weight at all. Doing that, even for one day, is considered anorexia. Actually, you might just gain more weight by not eating for one day, because whatever you missed, you'll make up for the next day. That is not a good idea.
What is a good idea though, is eating in moderation. Don't have huge meals. Instead have 3 small meals a day and a couple snacks in between.
Salad might work for you, but that's not the only thing you should eat. Try eating lean meats, like poultry, chicken, and turkey. Don't eat any red meats like beef or steak. You may even want to try tofu or tofurkey (tofu turkey), it's yummy, vegetarian & less fattening. Fruit and veggies are a good one too, not only are they good for your body, but if you replace desserts and junkfood with fruit, it provides a sweet treat that you won't regret later!
JustAsk answered Friday April 28 2006, 9:51 pm: Hey, yes you can lose weight but thats not a good reason not to eat regularly. Just try eating less junk food and fast food and sorta stay on a healthy diet. The less sugar and fat you eat, the more fit you will be.
Also, if you do eat junk food or fast food normally try exercising for a certain amount of time a day. About 30-60 minutes of physical activity always helps!
allielovesyouu answered Friday April 28 2006, 9:50 pm: okay,
i tried that not eating for one day thing and it really doesnt work that well. it messes with your metabolism and you actually gain weight. the best thing to do is not eat 3 big meals very day. try to have like.. 6 small meals a day every 2 or 3 hours. also, another one of the best things to do if you want to lose weight fast is to excersize a lot. that really helps lose weight last.
