Stupid computer

Question Posted Sunday April 23 2006, 5:55 pm

Okay, well, I recently tried to install the Sims game on my computer, but it keeps being retarded and it says my computer doesn't have enough memory or hard drive room or something. But we deleted all the things with a lot of room so there's more than enough room for a game that's only 2.06 MG. So what's wrong with it? I really want to play the Sims too. It's my favorite game. And don't reccomend getting a new computer because that's out of the question. And I don't want Sims for PS2 or PSP or anything. Thanks.

Have you tried disk defragmentation?

When you delete things constantly (and especially in large amounts), a kind of "trash" will be left behind. The more things that are cycled through your computer, the more this builds up, causing your computer to run slower and unnecessary lose of space on your computer. I would suggest trying to do this first.

Then also you might want to consider spyware. You would be wise to run some spycheckers and see if there are any on your computer. Because they will cause the unnecessary lose of space as well.

Then you might have forgotten to empty the reclye bin, which would leave the memory intact if you havn't emptied it.

Although....your computer might be refering to virtual memory. There might now be enough RAM left to play the game. In that case, if there isn't enough RAM left to play the game, you need either have to go out and get an upgrade on RAM, or run less programs while playing Sims, because the more programs you run, the more virtual memory it takes up.

Btw, what is 2.06 MG? I'm not familiar with it...

I hope I helped, and good luck.

-Ryan

Have you emptied your recycle bin? When you delete things, unless you hold down your shift key to permanently delete them, they are just moved to the recycle bin. (the trash can on your desk top.)

If you haven't emptied that, try emptying it by right-clicking on it and choosing "empty recycle bin".

If you have already done that, and you are still having problems, are you sure you only need 2 megs of hard drive space?

If you are talking about the original Sims game, I looked up the minimum system requirements, and here is what I found:

Minimum System Requirements
System: PII 233 or equivalent
RAM: 32 MB
Video Memory: 2 MB
Hard Drive Space: 300 MB

So you need 300 MB of hard drive space, not 2.06. The only thing close to 2.06 MB listed is for the video memory, which has nothing to do with how much hard drive space you have.

If you are talking about one of the other Sims games, it's quite probable they need even more hard drive space than that.

If you have any additional info or questions, email me. (my email is listed in my column)

Okay, if I'm correct in which I think I might be. Do the same as xomegaroni and also you could have a virus. DON'T PANIC. I could be wrong but most of the time that's what it results to.

Also, it could be the wrong version of the Sims for your computer. What model is your computer?

If you bought the Sims read on the Sims CD or Box and find out the requirements for the game to work. Just check up on all of these things and it should download shortly.

if you deleted things out've it & it still says that, then your computer could probably be messed up. you can check to see how much space you have left. on my old computer, it said we had all this space left, when really we didn't. go to CONTROL PANNEL, PERFORMANCE & MAINTENENCE, & then the link that says FREE UP SPACE ON YOUR HARD DISK er what not. it should show you some things there. if not, you might wanna get it checked out.

-hope that helped!♥
