Hi

First you have to REALLY want to quit, without a true desire to end this habit it won't work. If you are sure this is something you want to do, then good for you.

I smoked for several years before I got pregnant with my daughter. I chose hypnosis as my solution and it worked like a charm. Not a Romaine type hypnosis where there are hundreds of people in the audience. I had a one on one session, and I walked out of there with absolutley no desire to ever smoke again. It really did work for me.

Give it a try..what do you have to lose? Good luck!!

Brenda

Dear smoking,

The only and true key to quitting smoking is the long hard approach but it worked for me and for many. Its like losing weight, if you want to lose it its best to pace yourself and set goals. I used to be a pack a day smoker so I started to smoke 3/4 the pack of cigs a day and I did that till my body was used to it. Then over time I cut it down to less than a half and a few months later I was to smoking a pack a month. And now I don't smoke at all. So pace yourself and stick to the goal and im serious.

Chewing gum and all that is great but sometimes you want a creative idea. I don't know if this is a possibility because I don't know how old you are, but here goes. My uncle had been a heavy smoker for way over 5 years. My mom and my aunt wanted to help him quit. So, what they did was make a bank account. Every month for a year they each put $30 in the account. So basically a dollar a day. After a year of no cigarettes he could have all the money, which adds up pretty quickly by the way. If he smoked a cigarette during the year the money was cleared out and he'd have to start all over again. It worked so well. He didn't smoke even once. This plan requires a lot of honesty, a good bit of willpower, and someone that wants to help you with enough money to spare a little each month. You could even get 20 friends to put in $2 each month if you really wanted to do this. Money is a good incentive sometimes. You can change the plan around and make your own rules or whatever you want if it's something that you're interested in. If not, I hope that you do find something that works. It's a great thing that you're doing. Good luck!

I quit cold turkey after smoking for about 2 years. It certainly wasn't pleasant but I didn't find it unbearable. It seems to me though, that quitting smoking is something where you need to find the way that really works for you.

I just replaced cigarettes. I drank chocolate milk and chewed on the straws, sucked on lollypops and licorice constantly. I found all I needed was something to keep my mouth occupied (and a good amount of self-control). Not to say it felt okay, it felt completely awful, but I quit.

I probably went through a thousand lollypops that first month, and still, whenever I craze a cigarette, I drink chocolate milk instead.

It's good advice also to have someone else monitor you and support you. I doubt I would have quit if my friends hadn't been so helpful. Even your friends who smoke can help you by not letting you bum smokes.

It is great that your are trying to quit smoking. I think that getting involved into out door activities and even in door ones can get your mind of off your cigarettes. Also, try telling a friend or a loved one to monitor you at work or at school or something. I do not know how old you are so I am doing my best. When my cousin quit smoking she would control her cravings by hiding her cigarettes and doing some vulenteer work around the neighborhood. She also smoked less and less everyday. 1 day she would smoke 5 cigars and the next she would limit it to only 3, and work her way from there. Good luck, and I hope I helped.

Try to find something that you like doing to replace smoking with.

Examples:

Chewing Gum
Doing Sports
Reading books
Eating food
Drawing
Shopping

These will help you get your mind off of it!
Good Luck ! !

hi
I know what you are going though i just quit my self...If you don't want that kind of help, thats good because quiting cold turky is the most healthy way...If you want to quit like that, just find something to motivate you...Mine is my baby girl, and that fact that my mother is about to be 50 and has very severe emphasema really bad and i don't want to end up like that...just to let you know, the cravings never go away...My sister quit 10 years ago hasn't smoked and says she still craves sometimes. so it is going to be hard, you just have to do it and have really good will power....
(you don't have to rate a 5 by the way I don't mind giving advice i don't do it for the points)
but like i said it has to be something important or it will never work trust me..My husband smokes allt he time and its really hard not to for me but i have some important to motivate me you just need to find something
