How can I stop slouching?

Question Posted Friday March 24 2006, 2:26 pm

I have a bad habbit of slouching at my desk at work. I go home and my neck and back are killing me.

I don't even realize I am doing it while I am focused on doing my work. How can I teach myself not to slouch?

The easiest way is to push the chair as close as you can get to the desk without squeezing yourself. In order to comfortably do things such as writing or typing, you'll have to sit up right. You could also get a small pillow to use as support for your lower back.

I have that very problem. What helps me, is that when you 'suck' it in, it automatically helps your posture. Or .. whenever you can remember that you are slouching .. you sit up straight and train yourself.

Slouching is also when there is a lack of muscles in you upper back area. So you can work-out your back muscles .. and that also trains your back to sit up straight. THE END.

i know how you feel, a lot of people have a problem with slouching but you probably know that good posture is important for a lot of reasons. first, try to become more aware. if you are working on something and all of a sudden realize you are slouching, roll your shoulders back and try to sit up straght. try putting your back again the chair although that's hard when you're working. just try to become more aware. hope i helped<3

I have this same problem at school and when I'm on the computer. What I try to do, is make sure I'm conscious of when this is happening. Just make a mental note and remind yourself to take notice every once in a while if you're slouching, and tell yourself to sit up. When you're at home watching TV, or just doing daily things like eating breakfast, tie something around your upper body to make you sit up straight. After you do this, your mind will subconsciously make your body straight when you're sitting. It may sound silly, but trust me, it works. :)

Good luck. ♥ Mayila.

if you get a stool and sit on the edge of it, and pretend your head is attatched by some big metal bar to the ceiling, and that your head will be ripped off if you slouch, that will help you. or carry some heavy book on your head in your house to practice, so if it falls cuz you slouch, the heavy book will fall on you, and it will hurt

Well, I've been in band since 6th grade, and one problem everyone had was/is slouching. Our director would make us sit on the very edge of our chair, so we sorta had to lean back not to fall off. Sometimes he made us sit on an upside down trash bin, since they don't exactly have a back to lean against.

I still have a slouching problem, but I wear a rubber band around my wrist, and if I catch myself slouching, I pull it REALLY hard....it really helps me to remember ;)

Hope I helped!
