babysitting help

Question Posted Thursday March 9 2006, 3:20 pm

Im thirteen and I have babysat my younger sister and some kids down the street once, also my cousin who is four but i dont see her much. Anyways, I have given out flyers and stuff about a hundred times and noone will respond and noone will let me babysit. It s not like im a bad sitter or anything because ive only babysat those kids down the street and they had alot of fun and nothing went wrong. I dont get allowance and I cant get a job for a couple more years. I petsit but very rarely, and I dont have any money at all except for whats in the bank and Im saving that for college. Does anyone have ideas for jobs I could do or ways I can advertise my babysitting more?
Thanks!

I am also 13 and I have a pretyty good baby sitting job. I think that you dont have to be older to be a good babysitter because i always rememebr liking younger and more neergetic babysitters. I got my babysitting job from one of my parents friends from high school, they had just moved into our neighborhood and then I went over there to help ut on time and they started getting me alot. Dont hang up flyers in public cause yu shouldnt be babysitting for families u dont know, but you can hand out flyers just to families from church, school, sports....You could also clean the house, or mow neighbors lawns.
Well, I hope i helped because thats all I have to say!

you probably should just stick with you sister until maybe a year and then you can pass out flyers again but parents are looking for a lot of expierience with kids and also maybe you can take a babysitting and first aid class so you can put that on your flyers. and for the job thing, maybe you could do some jobs around your house and work out a deal with your parents where if you do a certain amount of work they can pay you. like i mow the lawn and my dad will usually give me five dollars.

One simple answer its because you are not quite old enough yet you have to be 14 maybe 15 in some places its not that they think you cant be trusted but if something should happen the police would blame them for leaving you with the kids. Try again when you are older

Are you in high school yet? No, probably not. But once you get into high school, if your school offers parenting and child development as a class, sign up for it. Once some of my neighbors found out that I took that course they liked the idea of hiring me better. I've been babysitting since I was about 13 and I'm 15 now. But if you take classes like that, or if you go to a local YMCA and take CPR and babysitting certification classes, parents REALLY like that. Also get to know the children in the neighborhood, or at least their parents. The reason I started getting calls to babysit is probably because when all the neighbors were outside I played with their little kids rather than the children close to my age. Parents just like stuff like that.

Uhh, pretty much you just have to get to know the parents and kids in the area and then when they get comfortable around you, and the kids are comfortable around you, suggest they go do something nice together and you'll watch the kids for a few hours. Ya know, something like that.
It may take a while, but it's worth it. And since summer is coming up, you'll get more and more babysitting offer. Though if other people in the area babysit too it may be hard to get these jobs. Especially because parents tend to go for the older teens to babysit instead of the younger ones.

Ask if you need anything else :)

this same exact thing happened to me last year.. i realized that everyone thought i was a lot younger than i really was make sure that on the flyers you write your age and your experience with kids. i would also suggest (if you haven't already) knocking on the door and talking with the parents and THEN giving them the flyer, repeat what's already on there, remind them where you live and act like you are interested in their kids, ask them stuff like "so i've noticed you have 2 little girls how old are they?!" stuff like that.

another way to get quick cash is to enter into these surveys. like i saw an ad for "teenage girls who wear make-up daily" and i put my name in.. they called me asked me some quesitons then asked me to come down the next day. i was with 3 other girls and they asked us some questions about make up for about like 30 minutes and i earned frikin 75 bucks!!! cha so i'd ask your parents about that stuff if you want more info on how to get those offers just ask me hope that helps good luck!

Well, are you a certified babysitter? Because if you have some kind of certification that says you know first aid and you have taken a babysitting class, it makes you look better--and you will learn a lot from the class.

No offense to the younger kids like you...but parents tend to like the older babysitters. people who a. have more expeiecne and b. who can drive.

also...have you taken the red cross babysitting class? that helps parents want you to babysitt...it gives them more confidence that you know what youre doing.
