I just found out that a distant relative who passed away has left me an 800 dollar inheritance. It may not sound like a lot but to me it is. I should be getting the money within the next month.
I would like to purchase something with the money. I don't want to blow it on clothing or CD's or DVD's. What would be something that I could buy that would be a wise purchase? I already have a DVD player and a computer.

I am in a similar situation, except my money is from my Bat-Mitzvah and it's about 4 times as much as yours. I'm saving it, and it's gaining interest, and then I'll probably buy a car. [ Igotamonopoly's advice column | Ask Igotamonopoly A Question ]

If you are to spend it, spend it on something you NEED. Pay the rent with it or something. [ K3587's advice column | Ask K3587 A Question ]
Alpha345 answered Monday March 6 2006, 9:37 pm: Investment and bank it.
Here's why. 800 is a very fair amount of money, with a fair amount of interest coming back on it. The higher your cash acount in your bank is the more your interest will be. It will keep paying you for it and that 800 can become alot more money, and then you can really buy something worth it's while, with more options.
And it will help you alot more in the long run if you need money in a pinch.
I hope I helped and you do something good with that money.
AskCary answered Monday March 6 2006, 8:26 pm: Buy something that will retain its value and never go out of style or become outdated. For example, a classic piece of jewelry such as a pearl necklace will be every bit as valuable and beautiful in 10 years as it is today. If you can't think of anything you want right now that won't become an expensive but faded memory in the future, hold off until you find the perfect item. You won't be sorry that you waited!! BlackAngel answered Monday March 6 2006, 6:30 pm: You could save it for educational stuff, textbooks etc for school...I know, terrible, but trust me, parents don't like paying for it either.
Also there's stuff like cell phones, a prom dress...or just save it for like senior prom and make it a huge night, you could redecorate your room...
Personally I'd say save it for when you find something you really want.
